WHITE RIVER - Louie Krogman and R.J. Estes combined for 57 points as White River defeated Kadoka Area 89-66 Western Great Plains Conference boys basketball action on Saturday.
The Tigers led at every quarter stop 25-8, 54-26 and 80-44.
"Our guys came out with intensity and were ready to go and sustained it throughout the entire game," White River coach Eldon Marshall said. "We were able to play good defense without fouling. We were patient and took good shots offensively."
Krogman paced White River with 36 points, including seven treys. Estes added 21 points while teammate Frankie Waln downed 13.
Turnovers hurt the Kougars, as Kadoka committed 29 while White River had 19.
Royal Addison netted 16 points to lead Kadoka Area. Teammate Bryer Jones added 15.
Kadoka Area (2-1) continues conference play on Tuesday when the Kougars host Philip. White River (2-0) will meet Lower Brule in the first round of the LNI on Wednesday.
Mobridge 64, Gettysburg 48
GETTYSBURG - Kyle Chase had a double-double and Mobridge beat Gettysburg, 64-48, in a high school boys basketball game Saturday.
Chase had 16 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
Dayton Jensen added 14 points for the Tigers, and teammates Brett Kuehl and Sky Frederick tallied 12 points apiece.
Jason Hanson paced the Battlers with 16 points. Teryn Combellick added 13.
Gettysburg led 20-15 after a quarter, but Mobridge came back and went up 34-32 at halftime. The Tigers led 48-42 entering the fourth.
Mobridge (1-2) plays at Sully Buttes on Tuesday. Gettysburg (0-3) plays at Northwestern on Thursday.
Edgemont 70, Philip 62
EDGEMONT - Edgemont held off Philip for a 70-62 win Saturday in a high school boys basketball tilt.
Arron Mower had 23 points and Josh Barker added 21 for the Moguls, who led at each quarter stop. They opened up a 24-13 lead after a quarter and led 41-25 at halftime. Edgemont was up 57-44 heading into the fourth.
Chris Brown pulled down 15 rebounds for Edgemont.
Casey Coach paced the Scotties with 15 points. Rob Williamson added 12 and Jeb Stewart had 10.
Edgemont (2-1) plays in a tournament in Harrison, Neb., on Monday. Philip plays at Kadoka Area on Tuesday.
Timber Lake 57, Selby Area 46 2OT
TIMBER LAKE - Nathan Kraft scored 15 points as Timber Lake defeated Selby Area 57-46 in double overtime of a high school basketball game.
The Panthers led 8-4, but trailed 16-14 going into the locker room. Timber Lake regained a 26-24 lead after three, but regulation ended tied at 37-all. The first overtime found the teams locked at 44-44.
Dayton Takes The Knife scored 12 points and Casey Aberle added 10 in the win.
Logan Frank paced the Lions with 12. Teammate Clint Huber netted 10.
Timber Lake (2-0) hosts Tiospaye Topa on Thursday. Selby Area (0-3) hosts Campbell County on Tuesday.
LATE FRIDAY
New Underwood 34, Faith 31
NEW UNDERWOOD - Two late free throws from Colt Swanson sealed the win for New Underwood as the Tigers defeated Faith 34-31 in a non-conference boys basketball game on Friday night.
The Tigers led at every quarter stop, 15-7, 20-14, and 22-20.
"We started off very strong in the first quarter," New Underwood head coach Stacy Finkbeiner said. "After that, Faith did a really good job slowing the tempo."
The Longhorns got within one point of New Underwood with a minute to go, but couldn't convert on a turnover. New Underwood couldn't score on the following possession.
Jaron Finkbeiner led the Tigers with a game-high 12 points before fouling out.
Jeremy Samuelson paced the Longhorns with 10 points.
Girls games
Highmore 41, Jones County 39
MURDO - Bailey Kusser scored a game-high 15 points as Highmore defeated Jones County 41-39 in girls basketball action on Saturday.
Highmore led at every quarter stop, 19-8, 26-18 and 32-30.
"We kind of got behind early," Jones County coach Neil Krogman said. "The girls really fought their way back, down by three at one point in the fourth quarter."
Highmore forced 16 Jones County turnovers and committed only nine.
Alyssa Krogman led the Coyotes with 12 points. Mary Volmer added 10.
Jones County, 0-3 overall, hosts Stanley County on Tuesday. Highmore, 2-1 overall, hosts Redfield on Monday.
Philip 53, Edgemont 25
EDGEMONT - Lindsay Mann and Marissa Mann combined for 26 points in Philip's 53-25 win over Edgemont during high school girls basketball action Saturday.
Lindsay Mann had 14 points, and Marissa Mann added 12.
Chyla Koller led the Moguls with seven points.
Edgemont (0-3) is playing in a tournament in Sioux County, Neb., on Monday and Tuesday, and Philip plays at Kadoka Area on Tuesday.
LATE FRIDAY
Pierre 57, S.F. O'Gorman 43
PIERRE-Fourth ranked Pierre showed some defensive muscle by holding Sioux Falls O'Gorman scoreless for almost five minutes in the second quarter to key a 57-43 girls basketball victory Friday at Riggs Gym.
The game was a rematch of last winter's state AA tournament semifinals won by the Lady Govs. It was the first time O'Gorman had ever come to Pierre for a girls basketball game.
"We did a good job of getting after the ball and causing some turnovers," said Pierre coach Lisa Kannegieter. "We converted on those turnovers and that gave us some momentum going into the second half."
Pierre committed 25 turnovers, 10 in the fourth quarter, compared to 27 for O'Gorman.
"The more you push the ball, the more turnovers you're going to have," said Kannegieter.
Steph Paluch of Pierre led all scorers with 18 points. Polly Gill had 14. Melaine Petersen had 16 points to lead the Lady Knights with Emily Schuelte adding 13 before fouling out.
Pierre and O'Gorman are both now 2-1 on the season. Pierre topped Sioux Falls Roosevelt for the first time in team history on Saturday afternoon. O'Gorman will also have an afternoon affair in Aberdeen to play the Golden Eagles of Aberdeen Central.
