HOT SPRINGS - The Hot Springs girls golf team picked up its first win of the season Thursday at Southern Hills Golf Course.

The Bison won a triangular with Rapid City Central and Red Cloud shooting a season-best 206. Red Cloud shot a 218 while the Cobblers did not have enough golfers to qualify with a team score.

"It was a good win in bad weather," said Hot Springs head coach Dave Merrill.

"This is the best score we have had at a meet this year."

Hot Springs is a young team with just one junior and one sophomore leading a group of junior high players.

Three-time state qualifier Emilie Palo was the medalist shooting a 49 for the Bison, Cassie Palo fired a 50 and Cassidy Vollmer and Schuyler Wetzel added 54s. Hannah Christensen and Tracey Deatheridge rounded out the Bison's team with a 64 and 76, respectively.

"We had the advantage of playing on our home course which is one of the few that people have been able to play on with all this weather," Merrill said.

Red Cloud was paced by Shelby Ross' 48, Bobbi White shot 53, Jacqui White carded a 54, Tiarra Little shot 63 and Chelsea Zimiga rounded out the team with a 65.

The Cobblers' Taylor Warren led the way for her team with a 57, Lindsey Evans had a 65 and Azure Rodriguez shot a 67.

Hot Springs is back in action Tuesday when they play in the regional tournament in Custer.
