Coyotes complete unbeaten weekend

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - The University of South Dakota softball team capped off an unbeaten weekend with two more wins at the Morningside Invitational Sunday in Sioux City, Iowa.

USD (20-10) beat Morningside College, 3-0, and Midland Lutheran College, 4-0 to finish the two-day event at 5-0.

USD recorded the two wins thanks to outstanding pitching performances by Cortney Heim and Mel Johnson, both of whom fired complete-game shutouts on the day.

Heim fired a three-hit shutout in the win over Morningside. She struck out five and walked three and did not allow a runner past second base. She improved to 13-4 on the year. Johnson fired a two-hit shutout in the win over Midland Lutheran.

Anderson, Durland lift Vikings to softball sweep of Crookston

Augustana broke out the bats and stellar pitching as the Vikings swept Minnesota, Crookston in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Bowden Field. The Vikings won the opener 13-0 and the nightcap 8-0. Both games went five innings.

Augustana (7-16, 2-0 NSIC) pounded out 23 hits on the day to go along with the impressive pitching of Mickey Anderson and Chelsey Durland.

Anderson, a sophomore from Norfolk, Neb., tossed her first career no-hitter in the second game of the twinbill. She walked two hitters and struck out seven en route to improving to 2-2 on the season.

Durland had Minnesota, Crookston (0-12, 0-6 NSIC) baffled in the first game. She retired the first six hitters in order before giving up a lead-off single in the third inning. The Golden Eagles did not get another hit until picking up three hits in the fifth. Durland struck out 3 and did not issue a walk.

CSC softball team turns back UCCS, twice

CHADRON - Thanks to strong pitching and timely hitting, the Chadron State College softball team won two of three games against the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Sunday afternoon in Chadron during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tripleheader.

The Eagles and Mountain Lions played three games because their doubleheader was postponed from Saturday. The two teams were to play a fourth game on Monday, but that game has been canceled.

With the wins, CSC improves to 15-20 overall and

8-11 in the RMAC. UCCS falls to 10-19 and 7-14 in the conference.
