Women's basketball: Four Jackets in double figures in 73-46 win

Black Hills State picked up a season opening Dakota Athletic Conference win with a convincing 73-46 triumph over Mayville State at the Young Center in Spearfish on Friday night.

The Lady Yellow Jackets limited the Lady Comets to only 17 first half points as the hosts led 38-17 at the intermission.

Offensively BHSU (8-3 overall and 1-0 DAC) had four players score in double digits as freshman Keely Krolikowski from Martin came off the bench to drop in 13 points. Katelynn Lamb a sophomore from Onida had 12 points, with Tiffany Thomas and Brittany Fuhrman adding 11 and 10 points respectively for the winners.

In the second half Black Hills outscored the visitors 35-29.

The rebounding battle was even as each team grabbed 36.

Alana Dykhouse had six boards to lead the Jackets, who had 13 players grab at least one rebound.

Janna Schriber, a sophomore guard from Gillette, dished out a team-high seven assists to lead the Yellow Jackets.

Black Hills forced 31 turnovers and tallied 16 steals as Thomas notched four picks.

Mayville State (2-9 overall and 0-1 DAC) was led by Kelli Smart's 11 points. Lindsay Sannes totaled seven rebounds to lead the team.

The visitors were a cool 7-of-23 from the floor in the first half before finishing 15-of-44 for the game.

Black Hills State will host Dakota State in an afternoon game at 4 p.m. MST today in Spearfish. Mayville State will travel to play South Dakota Mines in a 4 p.m. game at Goodell Gymnasium today.
