STURGIS - The Sturgis boys soccer team kept its record perfect this season with a 2-1 victory over Freeman Academy on Saturday. The Scoopers took a 2-0 lead at halftime and held on for the win.

Luke Erfman put Sturgis on the board in the first 10 minutes of the game off an assist from Kurt Wilson. Thaine Manderfeld then put the ball in the back of the net just before the conclusion of the first half to complete the Scoopers' scoring.

Freeman Academy would finally get on the board with 15 minutes remaining in the game, but that is as close as it would get.

The victory improved Sturgis to 6-0-0 overall, and the Scoopers will bring their unblemished mark to Rapid City on Friday when it faces Douglas at Sioux Park at 6 p.m.

BRANDON VALLEY 4, RAPID CITY CENTRAL 2: The Rapid City Central boys soccer team dug itself an early hole against Brandon Valley and was unable to climb out falling 4-2 on Saturday.

The Cobblers found themselves down 3-0 at halftime, and made their comeback attempt having to play a man down for nearly 60 minutes. A Central midfielder was given a red card in the first half after an official believed he deliberately stepped on a Brandon Valley player after the two collided and were getting back to their feet.

Central got goals from Nick Sterling and Ryan Keohane in the second half. Keohane's goal came after he dribbled nearly 40 yards and beat the Brandon Valley goalie sending the ball into the back of the net.

The loss drops the Cobblers to 1-5 overall on the season as they prepare to play Yankton on Saturday.

JAMES VALLEY CHRISTIAN 4, DOUGLAS 0: James Valley Christian scored three times in the first half on its way to a 4-0 win over Douglas in boys soccer action on Saturday.

Douglas, which remains winless on the season, had a few chances in the second half, but a strong James Valley Christian defense controlled much of the match.

GIRLS

BELLE FOURCHE 5, VERMILLION 1: Belle Fourche broke open a tie game in the second half to down Vermillion, 5-1, in Belle Fourche on Saturday.

Kaylee Willard scored the Broncs first three goals of the game to record the hat trick and lead her team to the win.

"This is her first year playing up after being a defenseman in the past," Belle Fourche head coach Cindy Goeringer said. "She is a girl you can play anywhere because of her speed. She scored two of her goals with her left foot and she is right-foot dominant."

Rebeca Meza and Marina Bengston had the Broncs' other two tallies.

BRANDON VALLEY 3, RAPID CITY CENTRAL 1: Brandon Valley handed Rapid City Central a 3-1 loss Saturday afternoon in a girls soccer match at Sioux Park.

Central's Billie Enderby scored a goal in the fourth minute of the first half to give the Cobblers a 1-0 lead, but Brandon Valley answered with three unanswered goals before halftime.

"I felt like we outplayed Brandon Valley but they converted on their chances," said Rapid City Central head coach Mike Austin. "We had a lot of shots at goal in the second half but it wouldn't go in the net."

Rapid City Central fell to 0-5-1 on the season and will face Mitchell on Friday at 7 p.m.

ST. THOMAS MORE/RAPID CITY CHRISTIAN 3, HURON 0: St. Thomas More/Rapid City Christian bounced back from its lone tie of the season with a 3-0 win over Huron on Saturday.

The Cavaliers dominated play as Huron failed to advance the ball past the More 18-yard line even once.

"Our defense was solid led by Emily Hurd and Lauren Jaeger," More head coach Doug Noyes said. "Huron bunkered on defense, but we did a good job of moving the ball around and creating chances."

Maria Gonzalez scored a pair of goals for More and Alayna Ackerman added the other talley.

More (4-0-1 overall) hosts Groton on Friday.

RAPID CITY STEVENS 4, BROOKINGS 1: The Rapid City Stevens girls soccer team picked up their fourth straight win after defeating Brookings 4-1 in a Saturday afternoon game at Sioux Park.

Stevens scored first when Megan Anderson put it above the goalkeeper from 30 yards out, followed by a goal from Haylee Weisgram which gave the Raiders a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Brookings scored their only goal early in the second half, but goals from Weisgram and Taylor Faulkner put the game out of reach.

"Weisgram has been a consistent player, but absolutely stepped up her game this weekend," said Rapid City Stevens head coach Troy Anderson. "She did a great job finishing for us."

Rapid City Stevens (4-2) takes their winning streak on the road against Yankton on Friday at 7 p.m.

"They (Raiders) are have fun and possessing the ball with a purpose," said Anderson.
