Deadline for Primal Quest 2009 fast approaching

PIERRE - Registration deadline for "The World's Most Challenging Human Endurance Competition," Primal Quest Badlands 2009, is 10 a.m. on Friday. Registration will close after the first 75 applications and payments are processed. The entry fee is $11,500 for co-ed teams of four.

"Primal Quest Badlands will be more affordable this year as compared to last year," Don Mann, director of Primal Quest, said. "The amount decreased by $1,000 and because this is an unsupported event, there will be no need for teams to rent trucks and RVs or pay other costs associated with having a support crew. Additionally, the only required skill certifications will take place on-site prior to the race, eliminating the need for teams to take part in costly skill assessments prior to their arrival in South Dakota."

To enter the competition, $2,500 is due upon receipt of application to secure registration on Friday with another $4,500 due on Feb. 15 and April 15, 2009.

Primal Quest has agreed to sponsor one South Dakota team for the race next summer, however other local teams are encouraged to register as well. To be selected as the sponsored South Dakota team, each team member needs to be a current resident of the state and the team needs to submit an essay documenting their qualifications and goals for the Primal Quest Badlands race and explain why they would be good representatives for South Dakota during the race. Primal Quest will have full control over reviewing the essays and selecting the team. Once the team has been chosen and announced, they will be refunded in full of all entry fees paid to date.
