PIERRE - The weather held off long enough for girls golf teams from throughout the state to get in a complete round of 18 holes on Tuesday at Hillsview Golf Course in Pierre.
While Brookings and Lead-Deadwood battled it out for the top team spot, Rapid City Stevens' only senior, Paige Osterloo, stole the spotlight with her first-place score of 78. Osterloo was the only golfer to finish below 80, as Lead's Dani Bellet and Jennessa Rantapaa finished with scores of 80 and 82 respectively, to round out the top three.
Brookings finished with four golfers in the top 15, to put them in the top team spot with a 352 - one stroke in front of Lead-Deadwood.
Stevens was the next contender in line, but finished further back with a team score of 366.
Sturgis' Megan McDougal took seventh with a score of 86. Lead-Deadwood's Tassy Rantapaa and Katelyn Belzer of Stevens followed with scores of 89 and 90, respectively. Sturgis' Kelsey Emme shot a 91 and Spearfish's top finisher, Hayley Decker shot a 95.
Sturgis and Rapid City Stevens will join several local teams slated to play in the St. Thomas More Invitational on Thursday at the Elks Golf Course.
