VERMILLION - Dylan Grimsley, a former standout on the University of South Dakota men's basketball team, will sign with a professional team in Sweden this week.
Grimsley will sign with the Sondertalje Kings in Sweden. He leaves on Tuesday and expects to sign with the Kings once he arrives on Wednesday.
Grimsley, a native of Sioux City, Iowa, and graduate of Bishop Heelan High School, wrapped up a stellar USD career last spring.
"I'm really excited about it - a little nervous, too," Grimsley said. "I want to go over and experience something I've never experienced before and hopefully have success on the court as well."
In 2008-09, Grimsley was second on the team in scoring (14 points per game) and rebounding (6.1 per game). He also shot 34.2 percent from three-point range and shot 80.2 percent from the free-throw line. Grimsley had 68 assists and 21 steals as well. He earned All-Independent honorable mention honors as well.
In just three seasons at USD, Grimsley left his mark on the record books. He scored 1,317 points in his career, which is 15th all-time in USD history. He also had 533 rebounds, placing him 22nd all-time, and is one of 18 players in USD history to reach 1,000 points and 500 rebounds for his career.
Augustana's Chris Janisch tabbed NSIC defensive player of the week
Augustana College linebacker Chris Janisch has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Week following the Vikings' 38-16 season-opening victory at St. Cloud State last Thursday.
Janisch, a 6-foot-1, 243-pound junior from Sioux Falls, spearheaded Augustana's defense against the Huskies. Janisch recorded a career-high 16 tackles, including 11 solo stops. He also had one tackle for loss and a quarterback hurry from his middle linebacker position. Janisch played a key role in helping Augustana limit St. Cloud State to 17 yards in the fourth quarter and just 123 yards in the second half.
Janisch, a 2008 All-NSIC South Division Second Team selection, will lead the Vikings (1-0) into their home opener on Saturday against Emporia State (1-0). It will be the first game played in Kirkeby-Over Stadium, Augustana's new on-campus stadium. It will mark the first time in 51 years that the Vikings will play a home game on campus.
