It was a good day for Sturgis freshman Madeleine Takahashi. The Sturgis freshman has already shown that she will be a force to be reckoned with in South Dakota distance running circles after capturing the Class AA cross country title earlier this year. She finished second to Yankton's Megan Hilson in the Class AA 3,200-meter run with her best time of the season to show that it certainly wasn't a fluke. Takahashi came into the race with a season-best time of 12:03.00 and ran an 11:19.43 to lose to Hilson by just less than five seconds.

- The Douglas duo of Christina Scheler and Bailey Eich finished fourth and fifth respectively in the girls' 800-meter race. The race was one of the best of the day as Yankton's Krista Creager overtook Sioux Falls O'Gorman's Chandler Nielsen at the finish to win by .10 seconds - 2:17.39 to 2:17.49.

n The Gazelles showed their superiority in the distance events as Yankton won the girls' 3,200-meter run, 800-meter run and 4-by-800 relay on Friday.

- Rapid City Stevens' Darren Messenger finished third in the 3,200-meter run behind winner Bill Kogel of Sioux Falls Roosevelt and Yankton's Brad Anderson.

- Stevens' Tyler Niederwerder and Thomas Kjerengtroen finished fourth and fifth respectively in the boys' 800-meter run.
