SIOUX FALLS - Top-ranked Wagner took the first day lead at the State Class B wrestling tournament as the Red Raiders amassed 71.5 team points. Elk-Point Jefferson the state's second ranked team coming into the weekend followed in second place with 53 points.
Webster (50), Garretson (47.5) and Philip-Kadoka (46.5) rounded out the top five.
Harding County tallied 29 points to put the Ranchers in 12th place, Lyman sits in 17th place with 23 points, Newell was in 18th place with 21 points with St. Thomas More totaled 10 points for 32nd place with Stanley County scoring eight points for 33rd place.
Parkston the 2007 state Class B champion was in 11th place with 29 points.
Wagner, last year's runner-up and Elk-Point Jefferson had four wrestlers make it into today's semifinals with Webster and Garretson advancing five apiece.
Newell's top-ranked heavyweight, Tyler Bonefield had a quick couple of matches on Friday as he posted pins in his first two matches.
Bonefield (36-1) pinned Thomas Geyer of Kimball-White Lake in 1:31. He needed only 47 seconds in his quarterfinal match to stop Thomas Lamb of Clark-Doland-Conde-Willow Lake.
James Wilson of St. Thomas More nabbed a pair of wins wrestling at 140 pounds. The Cavalier junior improved to 42-5 with a 12-2 decision over Kody Aesoph of Faulkton and a pin over Wagner's second-ranked Mitch Breen in 4:09.
The 189-pound class features a pair of West River grapplers in Lincoln Smith (37-3) of Philip-Kadoka and Tyrel Bonnett (38-5) of Newell.
Philip-Kadoka's Travis Nelson a ninth-grader at 103 pounds and senior Jordan Smith (37-4) at 119 pounds also advanced into the semi's.
Harding County had some tough quarterfinal matches as only 160-pounder Trent Gress (40-5) advanced.
The Rancher's Tate Brengle (125), Ed Juelfs (135) and Kyle Nible (145) all fell in their second match of the day.
Brady Weischedel of Sully Buttes (39-4) wrestling at 215 pounds, made it into the semifinals with a pair of decision wins.
Ryan Kocer of Wagner won his first round 152-pound match-a pin of Joey Schmidt of Gettysburg at the 5:39 mark-but saw his bid for a repeat state title end when he lost to 15-9 to top-ranked Carl Serc of Alcester-Hudson.
Lyman sophomore Ian Muirhead improved to 49-4 with a pair of wins to advance.

The four wrestlers who came into the tourney undefeated on the year all advanced to the semifinals in fine fashion.
Brock Edgar (40-0) of Redfield at 125 pounds, Logan Storley (49-0) of Webster at 130 pounds, Logan Tycz (39-0) of Bon Homme at 160 pounds and Austin Luecke (39-0) of Groton Area at 215 pounds look to pick up two more wins today to stay perfect.
Wrestlers looking to win a repeat state title include; T.J. North of Elk Point Jefferson and Joe Aesoph of Faulkton at 112 pounds, Storley of Webster at 130 pounds, Dan Koupal of Wagner at 135 pounds, Tyler Stark of EPJ at 140 pounds, Serck, Alcester-Hudson at 152 pounds, Tycz of Bon Homme at 160 pounds, Smith of Philip at 189 pounds.
