CHADRON, Neb. - Three seniors on this year's Chadron State College football team will be participating in all-star games this weekend.
Offensive tackle John Strand of Imperial and cornerback Beau Wendling of Rock Springs, Wyo., are playing for the West in the Cactus Bowl in Kingsville, Texas, tonight, while tailback Danny Woodhead of North Platte is playing for the West (Kai) in the Hula Bowl in Honolulu at 4 p.m. MST on Saturday. The game will be televised on the Versus network.
Strand is one of eight offensive linemen on the West roster in the Cactus Bowl. Wendling is one of six cornerbacks on the roster.
Four more players from RMAC schools also are on the Cactus Bowl roster. They are defensive end Kurt Kissner of Mesa State, wide receivers Derek Dykstra of Colorado Mines and Rod Windsor of Western New Mexico and offensive lineman Brandon Borchart of Western State.
Woodhead is one of just two players from non-Division I schools to play in the 62nd Hula Bowl. The other is Kolomona Kapanui, a tight end for West Texas A&M. He caught three passes for 18 yards in the Division II playoff game against the Eagles in 2006.
Also on the West roster is Maurice Purify, the Nebraska receiver, and Colorado linebacker Jordan Dizon.
Nebraska linebacker Corey McKeon is on the East (Aina) roster.
Rushville, Neb., native and former Seattle Seahawks quarterback Kelly Stauffer will be the analyst for the TV broadcast.
