FARGO, N.D. - The Rushmore Thunder squirts defeated Front Range, Colo., 4-3 to take third place in their first appearance at the 2008 Squirt International tournament.
T.J. Nolan and Brooks Mitzel each scored a pair of goals in the win. Nolan also earned two assists and Trevor Smith and Mitzel each added one.
The Rushmore Thunder Squirts finished the tournament with three wins and two losses. The Thunder move to 23-9 on the season.
Kyle Dunfee and Mason Teuber each scored a pair of goals as the Rushmore Thunder Bantam C team beat Sioux Falls White team 5-2 in Sunday's third-place game at the Bantam C state tournament.
Dunfee scored on a breakaway 55 seconds into the game which set the tone for a fast-paced first period. Sioux Falls' Dalton Dawes responded with a goal 4:40 into the period. Dunfee scored on another breakaway 23 seconds later. Sioux Falls tallied 10 shots while Rushmore had five in that period.
Rushmore's Connor Ward lit the lamp with three seconds remaining in the period to put the Thunder up by one. In the third period, Teuber added his two goals.
