STURGIS - Sioux Falls' Clint Erickson held off a strong pack of riders to claim Saturday night's Open Pro motorcycle final at the Jackpine Gypsies short track.

Erickson got a good start aboard his Yamaha and withstood a challenge from Chad Strable of Sioux Falls and Chris Lodes of Renner.

"A good start was the key. You had to run the bottom because it was little bit rough," said Erickson.

A quartet of Sturgis riders, Michael Kinzler, Chris Bruse, Matt Burge and Cody Berry followed at the finish.

The race was halted just before the halfway point when Riley Johnson, of Mitchell, suffered a spill in the second turn. Johnson was able to remount his Yamaha and finish eighth.

"On the restart, I had a little bit of trouble getting my rhythm back," Erickson said. "That's why it was good to be on the bottom."

Bruse, who overtook Strable on the final lap to claim Friday night's Open Pro feature, outran Strable again in Saturday's 450 Pro Sport main event.

A jump at the start also benefitted Bruse.

"It was a little rough, but it's the same stuff for everybody," said Bruse.

Gerit Callies of Hartford completed the double sweep for the weekend, winning the Open Amateur and 250 Amateur finals for the second straight night.

Saturday's win in the 250 Amateur came the hard way after Callies jumped the first attempt at the start.

Callies had to start from the second row and worked his way through the field, overtaking Andrew Prickett with just a couple laps left for the win.

Sturgis' Dawson Schieffer celebrated his recent seventh birthday by winning three of four main events, riding to big-margin wins in the 50cc Comp, 80cc Non-Comp, and 50cc Non-Comp classes.

As on Friday, Schieffer settled for third in the 60cc Comp class, trailing Brady Tausan and Tyler Vetter. Schieffer won both 50cc class main events on Friday.
