LAS VEGAS, N.M. - Four Chadron State College softball players hit home runs, and Casey Williams threw a complete game, as the Eagles defeated New Mexico Highlands 9-3, on Friday afternoon in Las Vegas, N.M.
With the win, the Eagles improved to 17-12-1 overall and 11-12-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
The two teams were to play a second game on Friday, but winter-like weather forced game officials to postpone the game until today. The Eagles will now play New Mexico Highlands at 9 a.m. before playing Western New Mexico in a doubleheader that starts at 11 a.m today.
In Friday's game, the Eagles and Cowgirls were tied
1-1 after the first inning, but CSC jumped ahead for good in the top of the third when Seville, Williams and Hillman each hit solo homers.
The Eagles added three more runs in the fifth inning courtesy of the long ball when Colbert's home run scored Allison Hendricksen and Seville.
The Cowgirls plated two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, but CSC answered in the top of the seventh when Cassie Humphrey hit a two-out bases-loaded single that scored both Seville and Jamie Mazankowski.
For Chadron State, all nine starters reached base and Seville was 3-for-4 from the plate with three runs scored.
Williams, who improved to 12-8 on the season, struck out four and scattered four hits in yet another effective start.
