Hill City's Andy Coy and Custer's Karley Konkel were the individual winners, while Douglas and Custer captured team wins in their respective divisions at the Eldon Knutson Cross Country Invitational on Thursday in Custer.
Douglas squeaked past the Rapid City Stevens junior varsity by a single point in the boys division, 50-51. Hot Springs was third followed by Pine Ridge and Hill City.
In the girls team race, Custer edged Douglas by a point, 20-21, with the Raider JV third. St. Thomas More was fourth and the Rapid City Central JV fifth.
The Wildcats and Patriots had three top 10 finishers each in the hotly contested team race.
Coy, the Rangers' senior and second-place state placer from a year ago, navigated the Rocky Knolls Golf Course layout in
17 minutes, 08 seconds to out-distance Belle Fourche's Colten Njos and Douglas' Casey Coates who ran 17:45 and 18:25 respectively.
Henry Crow of Red Cloud was fourth in 18:25 with Jared Fischer of Custer fifth with a time of 18.40.
The Patriots added another top 10 finisher in Nick Keller, who was ninth with an 18:58 run.
Konkel running on her home course, cruised to a 16:49 clocking to secure the individual win.
Jessica Tall, of Pine Ridge, was second in 17:21. Bailey Eich, of Douglas, was third in 17:26, followed by Taylor Neison, of Rapid City Stevens JV, in fourth at 17:33. Makala Diggs, of Douglas, rounded out the top five with a time of 17:36.
Custer's Mariah Gaston and Jessca Tennyson were sixth and ninth respectively, while Alex Suhr finished seventh for the Patriots.
Jarrick Jensen and Anna Holz, both of Rapid City Stevens, won the boys and girls individual JV races.
