RAPID CITY - The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League announced that they have acquired forward Matt Miller from the Rapid City Rush, in exchange for rookie forward Joey Olson. Miller is expected to join the Bucks when they arrive in Colorado later this week.

The 6-foot, 195-pound Miller, who is in his fourth professional season, played in 11 games for the Elite Ice Hockey League's Basingstoke Bison, where he put up 11 points, before playing in 13 games for Rapid City.

The Rush get Olson, who put up five points in 20 games this season. Olson had a minus-six rating for the Bucks. Olson has also played in the East Coast Hockey League with the Johnstown Chiefs and the now-defunct Mid-Atlantic Hockey League following a two-year stint at Robert Morris University.

SDHSCA names coach of the year nominees

The South Dakota High School Coaches Association has chosen its winners of Coach of the Year in five fall sports.

Aberdeen Central's Bill Martens was named coach of the year in girls cross country. The other nominees were Dave Dannenbring, Yankton; James Benning, Estelline; Jason Wagoner, Sioux Falls Roosevelt; Harry Weller, Kadoka; and Gary Winter, Chamberlain.

Shannon Jewett, of Cheyenne-Eagle Butte, was named the top coach in boys cross country. Nominees were Becky Bell-Krueger, Wessington Springs; James Benning, Estelline; Dave Dannebring, Yankton; Tim Franz, Redfield and Chi Tran, Flandreau Indians.

Milbank's Jim Dahl was named the girls tennis coach of the year and the other nominees were Doug Dexheimer, Spearfish; Jesse Gladis, Brandon Valley; Terry Grove, Sioux Falls Roosevelt and Tim Mulhair.

The football coach of the year was Aaron Beavers, of Sioux Falls Lincoln. Other nominees were Steve Hansen, Dell Rapids; Tom Culver, Avon; Brad McDonald, Tri-Valley; and Scott Meyer, Mario/Hurley.

Wagner's Amy Tyler was named the volleyball coach of the year. Nominees were Anita Boeck, Arlington; Kim Bouman, Philip; Ronette Costain, Harrisburg; Nora Groft, Northwestern and Holly Lynch, Sioux Falls Roosevelt.
