RAPID CITY - Katie Friedel had 12 kills and Erin Duffy had 10 kills and five solo blocks to lead St. Thomas More to a 25-5, 23-25,

25-16, 27-25 hard-fought victory over Custer in Black Hills Conference volleyball action.

"They (Custer) played really well and we made some simple mistakes," said St. Thomas More head coach Brandon Kandolin. "I was pleased that we were able to make enough plays to get the win. The girls continue to play hard."

Kelsey Becker and Alexa White each finished with four aces, while Alexis Howard chipped in five digs for the host team.

"Everything goes through our setter," said Kandolin. "Kelsey has been able to put the ball in the right place to get points."

St. Thomas More (4-0 overall) faces Bennett County Saturday at

9 a.m. at the Philip Tournament and Custer (3-8) plays Red Cloud in Pine Ridge at 5:30 p.m.

WAGNER 3, GREGORY 0: Kelsey Krcil had nine kills and Kami Hoeke added eight as Wagner downed Gregory 25-16, 25-13, 25-18 in volleyball action in Gregory on Thursday.

Keaya Weber had 31 set assists for the Red Raiders. Teammate Mary Kocer tallied 34 digs.

Kary Vomacka led the Gorillas at the net with six kills. Carrie Hemeyer recorded five. Kaira Kruse paced the defense with 16 digs.

Wagner (6-1 overall) hosts Avon and Gregory (3-4) travels to Dakota Christian on Tuesday.

BENNETT COUNTY 3, WHITE RIVER 2: Bennett County handed White River its first loss of the season with a 25-20, 17-25, 29-27, 20-25, 15-8 victory in high school volleyball action Thursday night.

With the win, the Lady Warriors improved to 3-2 overall and play in the Philip Tournament on Saturday, while White River dropped to 5-1 and hosts Rapid City Christian on Monday at 6 p.m.

FLASHER, N.D. 3, MCINTOSH 0: Flasher, N.D., found holes in the McIntosh defense as the Bulldogs served 13 aces in a 25-21, 25-20, 25-17 victory in volleyball action on Thursday in McIntosh.

Kelsie Bentz and Allison Schick paced the Bulldog offense with seven kills apiece.

Alicia Nehl served three aces for the host Tigers. Hailey Vanlishout and Morgan Hoffman had five kills each. Jessica Schell and Danielle Alley split the setting duties with 11 and 10 assists respectively.

McIntosh (0-4 overall) heads to Mobridge for tournament play on Saturday.

GETTYSBURG 3, FAULKTON 1: Senior Calley Worth made 10 kills in Gettysburg's 27-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-19 volleyball win over Faulkton on Thursday to keep the Battlers undefeated on the season.

Haley Logan recorded a game-high six solo blocks for the Battlers. Jada Hawkinson connected on 52-of-52 sets and tallied 26 assists.

Trish Price made 11 kills to pace the Trojans' offense. Maleri McCloud and Chelsea Potter split the setting duties with 13 assists apiece.

Gettysburg (6-0 overall) concludes a four-game home stand with Miller on Saturday.

EDGEMONT 3, RAPID CITY CHRISTIAN 0: Edgemont extended its' winning streak to eight matches as the Moguls swept Rapid City Christian 25-11, 25-15, 25-16 in prep volleyball action on Thursday.

Liz Humiston was 20-of-21 serving with two aces, followed by Lacy Stevens who finished

14-of-15 with one ace for Edgemont. Humiston also led the team with four digs and Josie Thomsen added three in the win.

Edgemont, 9-1, travels to Hay Springs, Neb., today for a match at 4 p.m. Rapid City Christian, 1-6 overall, faces White River on the road on Monday.

"I just thought we were a little flat," said Edgemont head coach Randy Stevens. "I hope we're prepared and ready to face them (Hay Springs) because it will be a tough match."

WALL 3, KADOKA AREA 1: Loni Humphrey made eight kills, served six aces and assisted on a block to help Wall overcome Kadoka Area 21-25, 25-11, 25-17, 25-13 in volleyball action Thursday night.

Katrina Kjerstad led the Eagles with nine kills. Tiana Kjerstad earned 21 set assists in the win.

Wall (5-3 overall) hosts St. Thomas More on Tuesday. Kadoka Area (2-3) travels to Philip for a weekend tournament on Saturday.

HOT SPRINGS 3, NEWELL 0: Hot Springs spoiled Newell's home opener by defeating the Irrigators in straight sets 25-23, 25-19, 25-22 in a Black Hills Conference volleyball match on Thursday.

"Hot Springs is always a tough team to play," said Newell head coach Teresa Pittman. "It was our first home game and we might have been nervous. We did a good job but Hot Springs just hustled a little better."

Pittman felt sophomore middle hitter and blocker Megan Mutchler played a consistent game for the young Newell team.

"This is the first week she (Mutchler) started on varsity and she is really doing a good job."

The victory gave the Hot Springs their first win of the season (1-2 overall) and the Bison now travel to Hill City for a 7:15 p.m. match against the Rangers on Tuesday. Newell, 2-4, hosts Hill City on Thursday.
