RAPID CITY - St. Thomas More picked up a Black Hills Conference volleyball win over Belle Fourche on Tuesday night.
More knocked off Belle Fourche in four games winning 21-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-19
"I think every game is a learning experience for us," said St. Thomas More head coach Brandon Kandolin. "We are growing as a team."
St. Thomas More improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the BHC.
"We played more aggressive in the first match than we did later on," said Belle Fourche head coach Loree Schlictemeier. "More got after us later in the match and we didn't match their intensity."
Alexa White registered 10 kills and five aces for the Cavaliers.
Erin Duffy and Theresa Poloncic were tough at the net as the pair recorded seven solo blocks and four assist blocks between them.
Brianne Anderson led the Broncs with 11 kills, two aces and two blocks.
Shea Thorson was in on 28 digs and Serena Kokesh dished up 20 assists for Belle Fourche.
"I have been pleased with our start so far," said Kandolin. "They are very willing to work hard and are starting to buy into our system."
More will host Custer on Thursday in another Black Hills Conference match.
Belle Fourche (2-1 overall, 1-1 BHC) will travel to play in the Philip Invitational on Saturday.
SUNSHINE BIBLE ACAD. 3, WESSINGTON SPRINGS 0: Allison Hahn had eight aces, two assists and one kill, helping Sunshine Bible Academy to a 25-13, 25-9, 25-10 win over Wessington Springs on Tuesday in 281 Conference volleyball action in Miller.
Rachel Kosakowski led the Crusaders (3-1 overall, 1-0 conference) with 11 digs. Adriana Rake handed out six assists and had five kills and four digs in the win.
Wessington Springs (0-3 overall, 0-1 conference) got seven digs and five aces from Kasey Younie.
Sunshine Bible Academy is at James Valley Christian and Wessington Springs travels to White Lake. Both games are scheduled for Thursday.
PHILIP 3, JONES COUNTY 0: Philip downed Jones County, 25-13, 25-18, 25-23, in girls high school volleyball Tuesday night in Murdo.
No Philip statistics were available. Mary Volmer led Jones County on 19-of-19 serving with five aces. Sophie Iversen was 39-of-40 in setting with seven assists. Kam Iversen was 16-of-18 in spiking with seven kills.
Philip (2-1 overall) hosts Lyman Thursday night, while Jones County (0-2) travels to Colome on Thursday.
CHEYENNE-EAGLE BUTTE 3, DUPREE 0: Mariah Cook handed out 11 assists and Tiara Maxon had five kills to lead Cheyenne-Eagle Butte to a 25-14, 25-22, 25-10 win over Dupree in volleyball action Tuesday night.
The Braves also received six aces from both Cesi Allen and Leona Benoist in the win.
"We still need to work on our hitting," said Cheyenne-Eagle Butte head coach Allen Benoist. "We kind of struggled on our serve-receive."
Cheyenne-Eagle Butte faces Faith on Saturday at the Mobridge Tournament.
RAPID CITY CHRISTIAN 3, OELRICHS 1: Rapid City Christian picked up its first win of the year with a 25-14, 25-27, 25-14, 25-11 victory over Oelrichs in volleyball action Tuesday night.
The Lady Comets welcomed the return of Megan Baker, who gave the team a big lift in the final game.
"We had very good serves," said Rapid City Christian head coach Juliana Tomek. "Megan had a lot of aces in the final game to help us get the win. "Oelrichs just started last year and they are a very young team. We worked hard to get the win tonight."
Rapid City Christian travels to Edgemont for a 6 p.m. game on Thursday.
WINNER, BENNETT CO. GET WINS AT TRIANGULAR: Winner defeated Bennett County and then Bennett County rebounded to down Gregory in a volleyball triangular on Tuesday night.
The Warriors defeated Bennett County, 25-23, 25-21, 15-25, 26-24, as Mica Haley registered nine kills.
Kory Novotny had seven kills and 28 digs with Alix Driscoll contributing four kills, two blocks and 12 digs for the winners.
Winner improved to 4-1 in duals this season.
Amy O'Neill powered down 13 kills in Bennett County's three-set win over Gregory. The Warriors won 25-12, 25-22, 25-9.
Cara Kratovil added six kills and three blocks with Kelsie Harris recording 19 assists and nine digs.
No information was available on the Winner-Gregory match.
Bennett County will host White River on Thursday, while Winner will play in the Platte-Geddes Invitational on Saturday.
WHITE RIVER REMAINS UNDEFEATED: Stanley County and White River registered volleyball wins over Timber Lake and then White River def. Stanley County, 25-23, 20-25, 25-15, 25-14. to wrap up the Sioux County Triangular on Tuesday.
The Buffaloes (4-5 overall) defeated Timber Lake 25-23, 25-23, 18-25, 25-19.
Kasidee Traverise banged out 18 kills in the match for the Panthers. Danielle Long had 20 digs and Becky Maher chipped in with 16 assists.
White River improved to 5-0 with a 25-14, 18-25, 25-22, 25-19 win over the Panthers.
Traversie served up 10 aces with Jaclyn Richter pounding down 10 kills for Timber Lake.
In Thursday action, Timber Lake 2-2 will host Selby Area, Stanley County visits Philip to play Philip and Lyman and White River will travel to Martin to play Bennett County.
EDGEMONT 3, NEW UNDERWOOD 0: Edgemont defeated New Underwood 25-9, 25-9, 25-23 in volleyball action on Tuesday.
The Moguls finished with six aces, led by Chyla Koller and Josie Thomsen with one ace each.
"After the first two, we lost our intensity level and our game dropped off as well," said Edgemont head coach Randy Stevens. "I was proud of the girls the way they stepped up and never gave up."
Edgemont (8-1 overall) hosts Rapid City Christian on Thursday at 6 p.m.
NEWELL 3, LEAD-DEADWOOD 2: Newell bounced back from an early deficit and defeated Lead-Deadwood 3-2 in Black Hills Conference volleyball action on Tuesday.
After losing 23-25, 19-25 in the first two games, the Irrigators went on to sweep the Golddiggers 25-19, 25-21, 15-7 for the win.
Rachel Stagner paced the Lead-Deadwood attack with 12 blocks and 22 assists, while Mesha Larson finished with nine kills.
"The girls just aren't coming out strong enough to start the game off and kind of digging a hole," said Lead-Deadwood head coach Kasey Stroud. "They played well but need to come out more aggressive."
Lead-Deadwood (0-4 overall) travels to Philip for a tournament on Saturday, with play beginning at
9 a.m.
DOUGLAS 3, HOT SPRINGS 2: Chelsea Edwards tallied 11 kills and six aces to lead Douglas to a 24-26, 25-16, 25-27, 25-15, 15-8 win over Hot Springs in Black Hills Conference volleyball action at Whitehead Auditorium.
"We expected long rallies with Hot Springs," said Douglas head coach Jeff Nugent. "We had the early lead in game one, but it slipped away. We attacked and served well in game two."
The Patriot's Kelsey Schwartz had 31 digs while Brooke Sandmeier came off the bench to finish with 15.
"We made nice adjustments and we had kids come off the bench and really help us out," said Nugent. "It was a nice win after being down two games to one."
Douglas, 2-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play, hosts Hill City at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday.
