The Central Baseball Association will host a registration night and tryout meeting for the spring 2009 season at
6 p.m. on Jan. 20 at the Rapid City Central High Commons.
Central baseball is open to any boys between the ages of 14 and 18 currently enrolled at Central High School. This is a mandatory meeting for anyone planning to try out for the team. In order to try out, players must have a current sports physical on file and must pay a $50 nonrefundable tryout fee.
Central's new head coach, Molloy Dial, and his coaching staff will be introduced as well as distributing fundraiser packets and outlining this year's program.
Registration forms can be picked up at the Central High School activities office and Dakota Sports.

YMCA winter session registration under way
Registrations are now being accepted for the 2009 winter session of youth sports at the Rapid City YMCA.
The following programs are currently accepting registrations; girls third-grade volleyball clinic, girls fourth- and fifth-grade volleyball league, girls sixth-, seventh-, eighth- and ninth-grade volleyball spikers league, girls second through fifth-grade basketball league, boys second through fifth-grade basketball league and boys kindergarten through first-grade basketball clinic.

Frostbite Four Road Race set for Jan. 31
The Beresford Booster Club will host its 10th annual Frostbite Four Road Race at 11 a.m. on Jan. 31.
This event will feature a four-mile run and a two-mile run/walk. All runners will meet at Beresford High School. There will be three courses marked and weather conditions the day of the race will determine which course is used.
All participants will receive a long-sleeve T-shirt. Bathroom and shower facilities will be available at the high school, and a chili feed will follow the race.
Participants can register at www.allsportrunning.com, by calling 605-763-5012 or on the day of the race from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at Beresford High School.
Hendricks named spirit coach of the year
The South Dakota High School Activities Association has announced that Brookings' Patsy Hendricks has been named the national spirit coach of the Year by the National Federation of State High School Associations.
Hendricks was selected by the National Federation's Spirit Association as the recipient of the national award.
Hendricks will receive a plaque from the NFHS along with a trip to Orlando, Fla., to the National Cheerleading Championships in February.
