Black Hills State hitter Kristin Engle was voted the most valuable player by the Dakota Athletic Conference when awards were announced Monday.
Her coach, Jhett Albers, won the coach of the year award from the conference for the second straight year, sharing the honor with coach Chris Mahoney of Jamestown College. Both coaches shared the conference championship and had multiple athletes on the all-conference first team. Black Hills State outside hitter Maggie O'Neill and setter Mandy Brumfield also made the first team.
The Jamestown contingent includes setter Kayla Fee and outside hitter Ali Edwards.
Jenny Hiykel, of South Dakota Mines, was the only senior voted to the first team. She was also selected as the libero of the year and senior of the year. Mines hitters Ashley Kauffman and Katherine Hanson were named to the all-conference second team.
Fee was selected the setter of the year and Dickinson State hitter Jennifer Hartman was chosen as the freshman of the year.
