SIOUX FALLS - The Yankton Bucks and Sioux Falls Washington showed why they have been tabbed as the teams to beat in Class AA golf this season with an individual and team wins at the Warrior Invitational at Willow Run Golf Course on Monday.

Yankton won the team title by one shot over Sioux Falls Washington, 306 to 307, and Washington's Kyle Cooper shot a 1-over par 72 to win the individual crown.

Sioux Falls Roosevelt and Pierre finished three shots behind Yankton in a tie for third place. Rapid City Stevens tied for sixth place with Watertown. Sophomore Shane O'Brien's 77 paced the Raiders.

"Yankton and Washington have separated themselves from the state pretty much," Stevens head coach Phil Hunt said. "They were the top two teams last year and basically return their teams in tact, so it's not really a surprise. We did all right. I'm surprised and happy for O'Brien, who is a sophomore getting a little varsity experience. Like I've said before, we're just going to keep getting different kids an opportunity and see if we can get the right combination out there by end of the year."

Josh Pappel shot an 80 for the Raiders, Mac Young was next with an 81 and Brogan Pappel rounded out the top four for Stevens with a round of 82.

The Raiders are in Pierre for the Pierre Invitational today at Hillsview Golf Course. The 12-team tournament, which also includes Rapid City Central, Spearfish and Lead-Deadwood, begins at 9 a.m. MDT.
