Tennis: Rapid City Stevens sweeps three Sioux Falls schools

SIOUX FALLS-The Rapid City Stevens tennis team completed the sweep of Sioux Falls schools on Saturday and senior Gib Moyle became the third Raider this season to reach 100 victories in a career.

Stevens started the day winning six singles matches and two doubles matches to earn an 8-1 victory over Sioux Falls Lincoln.

Billy Paluch and Jack Hamburg won the No. 1 and 2 singles matches, respectively. Gib Moyle downed Kelly Dalton 7-5, 6-2; J.J. Shultz held off Collin Noldner 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 3 singles match; No. 4 singles featured Stephen Tibbles, who outscored Isaac Krueger 6-2, 7-5; and Cody Eslinger earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory over John Haraldson to round out singles action.

In doubles competition, the team of Peter Chang and Haraldson gave Sioux Falls Lincoln their only win by beating Tibbles and Eslinger, 6-2, 2-6 (10-7).

The visiting Raiders squared off next with Sioux Falls Roosevelt and came away with a 6-3 victory.

Paluch, Hamburg and Moyle all notched wins for Stevens. Brandon Weeldreyer posted a 10-4 triumph over Shultz in No. 4 singles and Neal Gregorson downed Tibbles 10-4 to close the gap for the Rough Riders. Eslinger ended singles competition handing Ryan Sieler a 10-6 loss.

Rapid City Stevens won two-of-three doubles matches against Roosevelt. Brock Weeldreyer and teammate Neal Gregorson sidelined Tibbles and Eslinger 10-6 in No. 3 doubles.

The Raider tennis team dominated Sioux Falls Washington 9-0 to finish the day.

Paluch defeated Jared Drenkow 6-1, 7-5 in No. 1 singles. Hamburg followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Dobby O'Donnell. Moyle and Shultz beat Austin Synders and Nolan Hazard by identical scores of 6-1, 6-0. Tibbles was a winner for Rapid City in No. 5 singles by downing Zach Hueners 6-2, 6-0, and Eslinger recorded a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Luke Haffeman.

With the sweep, Rapid City Stevens improved to 13-0 in dual matches this season. The Raiders will play Sioux Falls O'Gorman and Aberdeen Roncalli in Sioux Falls on Friday.
