RAPID CITY - Rushmore Little League had one more good inning than Sturgis in a 14-8 victory Saturday in pool play.

Trailing 2-3 going into the bottom of the fourth inning, Rushmore earned seven runs off three hits to take a 9-3 lead. Then Sturgis made its charge, scoring five runs off five hits to get within a run.

But that would be the end of Sturgis' run production. Rushmore added five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, three of which came off a Martin Mueller home run.

"They kept their heads in the game, stayed focused and played as a team," said Rushmore head coach Dean Jennings.

Trevor Laurenz had three runs, a home run and a double for Rushmore. Brandon Williams, Eli Bujarski and Mueller also had two runs. Jason Schneider led Sturgis with two runs, a home run and a double. Teammate Ben Walker had three singles.

Rushmore will play Canyon Lake at 3:30 p.m. today.
