Basketball roundup: Jones County upsets No. 10 Kadoka Area

WHITE RIVER - Jones County upset No. 10-ranked Kadoka Area 64-47 and White River edged Phillip 52-50 in District 13B semifinal action on Tuesday.

Alyssa Krogman netted 22 points for the Coyotes, who came in as the fourth seed in the district. Shelby Peters followed with 14 points and Mary Volmer 11 points.

The Kougars were led by Maria Herber with 21 points and Shannon VanderMay added 13 points. Kadoka Area finished 13-6.

White River held off a determined Phillip team in the final seconds to keep their season alive.

Shelby Horsley scored 14 points to pace the Lady Tigers. Caitlin Whiting chipped in 13 points and Sami Gillen added 10 points in the win.

The Lady Scotties were led by Sierra Hook with 15 points and Kenzy Pinney who netted 10 points.

White River (10-11) will host Jones County (5-17) Thursday night in the district championship game.

District 11A

MILLER/PRESHO - Lyman and Miller Area picked up District 11A semifinal wins on Tuesday to set up a Raider-Rustler championship tilt on Thursday.

Miller Area downed Chamberlain 39-28 in Miller and Lyman bested Crow Creek 69-58 in Presho on Tuesday night to set the stage.

Amanda Mentzer scored 12 points to lead the Rustlers

(15-6), while Kelsey Schindler's 11 paced the Cubs (4-17).

Miller led throughout en route to the win.

Lyman had four players score in double digits as Roni Rae Moore and Kari Schmidt popped in 16 points apiece for the Raiders.

Ali Linderman added 14 and Ashley Kemnitz talled 13 in the win.

Lyman (9-12) led 40-19 at the break.

Jolonna Sazue scored 19 and Sasha Ross had 16 to lead the Lady Chieftans (7-14).

District 14A

MARTIN/PINE RIDGE - Two ranked teams will meet in the district championship game after Bennett County and Pine Ridge picked up semifinal wins on Tuesday night.

Three players combined for 53 points as No. 6-ranked Bennett County toppled St. Francis 75-45.

Keely Krolikowski scored a game-high 25 points and grabbed 9 rebounds to lead the Lady Warriors. Amy O'Neill chipped in 17 points and Cara Kratovil added 11 points.

Marci Rodriquez and Roseanne Eagle Road scored 14 points each to lead St. Francis.

Keisha Brewer and Nichelle Long Soldier scored 17 points each as No. 10-ranked Pine Ridge registered a 73-48 win over Little Wound.

Sophia Janis finished with 15 points and Lacey Weston had 11 points for the Lady Thorpes. Brewer also hauled down 12 rebounds and Weston 11 boards.

The Lady Mustangs were led by Tawni Shay Hunter's 20 points.

Bennett County (19-2) and Pine Ridge (18-3) will play Saturday night at Rapid City Stevens High School. The Lady Warriors defeated the Lady Thorpes 60-53 in their only meeting this season.

DISTRICT 16B

FAITH - Top-seeded Harding County and Lemmon both picked up semifinal wins on Tuesday in District 16B.

The Ranchers got the best of Faith 57-39 and Lemmon held off the second-seeded Lady Skyhawks 51-41 to advance to the championship game on Thursday in Faith.

Amanda Jenson scored 19 and Samantha Jensen scored 14 to lead Harding County

(17-3).

The Lady Longhorns (9-13) hung around till late in the third quarter as Brianna Lemmel pumped in 27 of her team's 39 points.

Lemmon broke the game open in the second half as the Cowgirls scored 21 points in the third quarter to turn a one-point halftime lead into a 36-24 advantage over the Lady Skyhawks.

Bobbi Beer tossed in 16 points for Lemmon (10-11) while Kaitlyn Van Beek added nine points and nine rebounds.

Carmen Iron Hawk scored 17 to lead Takini (13-8).

Harding County knocked off Lemmon 57-21 in the second game of the year in the only meeting between the two teams.

BOYS GAMES

New Underwood 69, Crazy Horse 53

WANBLEE - Jaron Finkbeiner scored 27 points to lead New Underwood to a 69-53 win over Crazy Horse.

The Tigers led 48-43 at the end of the third quarter and outscored the Chiefs 21-10 in the final stanza.

Tyler Oberlander had 11 points for New Underwood, and Cole Swanson added 10 points.

Ace Amiotte tossed in three 3-pointers and tallied 21 points to lead the Chiefs. Taylor Red Elk chipped in 15 points, and Richard Lamont had 11 points.

New Underwood (12-6) travels to Murdo to face Jones County on Friday, and Crazy Horse (8-11) entertains Lower Brule on Thursday.

Avon 65, South Central 31

BONESTEEL - Earv Archambeau scored 16 points to lead Avon to a 65-31 win over South Central.

Matt Dykstra followed with 12 points and Marshall Cihak chipped in 10 for the Pirates (15-5).

Andrew Tuttle led South Central with nine points. Luke Tuttle closed out with seven.

South Central now jumps into District 12B play, opening against Marty on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Timber Lake 78, Solen, N.D. 53

TIMBER LAKE - Nathan Kraft scored 20 points and Jace Long added 17 as Timber Lake rolled past Solen 78-53 in their final regular season game of the season.

The Panthers outscored Solen 27-10 in the third quarter to take control of the game.

Timber Lake (16-4) will begin District 15B play on Tuesday as one of the top two seeded teams.
