DEADWOOD - Trevor Brazile of Decatur, Texas, claimed the opening event of the Days of '76 PRCA rodeo by winning Tuesday's steer roping competition at the Deadwood Rodeo Grounds.

Brazile clocked 34.9 seconds on three head to finish first in the average ahead of Jim Folk, of South Coffeyville, Kan., at 38.0.

Paul Patton, of Abilene, Texas, C.A. Lauer, of Buffalo, Okla., Marty Poppino, of Big Cabin, Okla., and Tim Abbott, of Midland, Texas, rounded out the top six.

Tied for third in the second go-round at 10.9 was Jess Tierney, of Hermosa. In the third go-round, Travis Mills, of Gillette, was third at 10.5, and Ora Taton, of Rapid City, was sixth with 11.4.

Action continues with timed events slack today and Thursday at 8 a.m. at the rodeo grounds. Barrel racing slack is Thursday at noon, with the two nights of twilight PRCA rodeo performances on Thursday and Friday at 6 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday rodeo performances are at 1:30 p.m.
