RAPID CITY - Three players shot rounds under 80 in hot, windy conditions during Monday's South Dakota Golf Association Wells Fargo Junior Tour event at Meadowbrook Golf Course.
Belle Fourche's Tyler Burr shot a 78 to win the boys' 14-15 age group, Rapid City's Paige Osterloo shot a 78 to win the girls' 16-18 age group and Pierre's Curry Kuehl fired the low round of the day - a 75 - to win the boys' 16-18 flight.
Scores were slightly higher than they had been last week when the SDGA's summer junior circuit made a stop at the same course, as a strong wind helped push scores up.
Osterloo fired a 77 at Meadowbrook last week to tie Taylor Smalley of Pierre after the first day of competition, but had to withdraw from the second day of the event after becoming ill. Smalley was not in Monday's field at Meadowbrook.
Rapid City's Mac Young and Piedmont's Clay Kopplin each shot scores of 80 to finish second in their respective divisions. Young finished as runner-up to Kuehl in the boys' 16-18 group and Kopplin finished second to Burr in the 14-15s. Spearfish's Carson Wika and Rapid City's Brogan Pappel each shot an 81 in the boys' 16-18 group.
Piedmont's Kelsey Emme shot a 90 to narrowly top Rapid City's Danielle Kerr in the girls' 14-15 age group. Kerr shot a 91.
Osterloo was dominant in her age group as she finished 20 shots ahead of second and third place finishers Ashley Watson and K.C. Belzer. Watson, of Belle Fourche, and Belzer, of Rapid City, each shot a score of 98.
A couple of Rapid City youngsters won the 11-under boys' and girls' divisions. Brody Remmers shot a 38 and Erin Rezich shot a 60 to win their respective events.
The Wells Fargo Junior Tour goes through the summer, concluding Aug. 4 with a points championship at Hillsview Golf Course in Pierre. Qualifiers from the Tour's three regions - northeast, southeast and west - will be invited.
The next west region event is scheduled for July 14 at Hart Ranch Golf Course outside of Rapid City.
