MURDO - Austin Koester recorded a double-double as Jones County defeated Kadoka Area 53-44 in Western Great Plains conference boys basketball action.
Jones County led at every quarter stop including a nine-point lead after three, 38-29. Both teams would score 15 points in the final quarter so the Kougars couldn't wipe away the deficit.
"We set the tempo to the game tonight and it really worked in our favor," Jones County coach JayTee Sealey said. "We got the ball inside right away tonight and that got us going. Our big guys really took their inside game away and we forced them to try to hit from the outside."
Koester scored 16 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to pace the Coyotes. Andrew Bork added 10 in the win.
Royal Addison also had a double-double for Kadoka with 16 points and 10 boards. Carter Uhlir finished the night with 12 points.
Jones County, 9-3 overall, plays Sully Buttes at Onida and Kadoka Area, 8-3, entertains Bennett County on Tuesday.
Winner 54, Cheyenne-EB 47
WINNER - Zach Horstman and Seth Daughters each scored 17 points as Winner held off Cheyenne-Eagle Butte to earn a 54-47 Big Dakota Conference victory.
The Warriors took an 11-8 lead after the first, but found the game tied 21-21 at halftime. Winner outscored the Braves 18-14 for a 39-35 lead heading into the final stanza.
Daughters finished the night with 17 rebounds to complete a double-double.
Chase Pay Pay led Cheyenne-Eagle Butte with 15 points. Tre Four Buffalo scored 12. The Braves shot 43 percent from the field and Winner shot 31 percent.
Winner (8-5, 2-2 BDC) travels to state-champion Ainsworth, Neb. on Tuesday. Cheyenne-Eagle Butte (7-6, 0-2 BDC) travels to Ft. Pierre to play Stanley County today.
Custer 66, Hot Springs 42
HOT SPRINGS - Jared Foote and Isaac Parsons combined for 50 points as Custer defeated Hot Springs 66-42.
Custer led 33-31 at halftime and held Hot Springs to only six points in the third quarter to take a 56-37 advantage.
"It was a tale of two halves for Hot Springs," Hot Springs head coach Kim Henningsen said. "We played a good first half and a bad second. Custer came out in the second half and adjusted to what we were doing and blew us out of the gym."
Parsons scored triple treys and Foote netted two as they scored 25 points apiece.
Blake McPherson paced the Bison with 12 points. Eamon Entwisle added seven and K.C. Fees, six.
"These kids played hard, that's what I ask them to do," Henningsen said.
Hot Springs (2-11, 1-7 BHC) hosts Douglas on Tuesday. Custer (12-2, 7-1 BHC) travels to Lead-Deadwood on Thursday.
Dupree 37, Grand River 36
McINTOSH - Cody Holmes scored 18 points as Dupree held off a late fourth quarter run by Grand River to win 37-36 in boys basketball action.
Dupree led 19-17 at halftime and 28-22 after three. The Mustangs outscored the Tigers 14-9 in the final stanza, but couldn't make up the deficit.
Drew Seiler scored a team-high 15 points for Grand River and Kyle Roubideaux added 10.
Iroquois 60, Highmore 57
HIGHMORE - Iroquois toppled Highmore 60-57 as Chase DeJong scored 18 with Robert Brown adding 16 and Jarrod Hopper netting 14 for the Chiefs.
The game was tied at 28 at the intermission.
The Pirates were led by Dana Keller's 14 points.
Highmore (7-4) will host Sunshine Bible Academy and Iroquois (8-5) travels to Wessington Springs in Tuesday games.
Wall 55, Faith 53
WALL - Wall held on to down Faith 55-53 in a non-conference game as the Eagles hit some big foul shots down the stretch.
Joe Besson and Bryant Huether each made a free throw to seal Wall's win.
"We made our free throws when we needed to late in the game," said Wall head coach Mark Ammann.
Besson tossed in a game-high 17 points and Sid Geigle added 15 to lead the Eagles.
Faith fell behind early, but rallied to tie the game at 41 at the end of the third quarter.
"It's nice to win one of these," said Ammann. "We had a lead, but got into some foul trouble. Both teams played hard and got after each other."
Wayne Palmer compiled a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds for the Longhorns with Lane Hildebrandt adding 15.
Wall (7-6) travels to play No. 2 White River on Thursday.
Faith (8-6) will participate in the Little Moreau Conference which begins on Thursday.
Hill City 58, Sundance 57
SUNDANCE, Wyo. - Hill City picked up a come-from-behind win over Sundance on Friday night as the Rangers spilled the Wyoming team 58-57.
Andy Coy hit back-to-back 3-pointers late in the game to give Hill City the lead.
Sundance then missed two free throws and an offensive put back within the last three seconds as time expired."
"It was a really good game," said Sundance head coach Jim O'Connor.
"We had things going our way and then we got into foul trouble. Then to make matters worse, we couldn't make our free throws down the stretch."
Hudson Koel scored 20 to lead Hill City with Clint Lewis and Andy Coy adding 11 apiece for the winners.
Cody Emrick led the Bulldogs with 17 with Dude Humphrey chipping in 11.
Sundance (10-4) hosts Big Horn and Hill City (7-5) will travel to play St. Thomas More in games today.
Ipswich 68, Sully Buttes 60
IPSWICH - No. 2 Class A Ipswich held on to down No. 4 Class B Sully Buttes 68-60 in a battle of top-five teams.
The Tigers remained unbeaten on the year as Jayson Geditz registered a double- double with 20 points and 17 rebounds.
Zach Merwin scored 21 for the Chargers who lost for only the second time this season.
White River defeated Sully Buttes 76-62 earlier in the month.
Ipswich (10-0) will take on Hoven-Edmunds Central in Roscoe and Sully Buttes (10-2) will host Jones County in Tuesday games.
Lower Brule 85, Santee, Neb. 73
LOWER BRULE - Four Lower Brule players scored in double figures as the Sioux defeated Santee, Neb. 85-73 in boys basketball action.
Ron Knudsen paced the victors with a double-double of 21 points and 17 rebounds. Devon Saul added 12 points and Kevin Wright netted 11.
Eltwin Grassrope and Wil Edwards each scored 10 points. In addition, Edwards grabbed seven rebounds and added eight assists.
Chris Handboy netted five 3-pointers en route to 24 points. Dominique Whiggle and Rudy Zimmerman each finished the night with 17 points.
Lower Brule, 5-6 overall, entertains Colome on Thursday.
Lemmon 60, Philip 54
PHILIP - Lemmon stopped Philip 60-54 as Andrew Sackman scored 20 points in the win.
The Cowboys led at every quarter stop en route to the win.
Caleb Clements scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Philip before fouling out.
Lemmon (6-6) will play in the Little Moreau Conference tournament beginning Thursday in Faith.
Philip (1-12) will take on Rapid City Christian on Friday in a Western Great Plains Conference game.
New Underwood 83, Edgemont 48
EDGEMONT - Jaron Finkbeiner proved a dominant force for New Underwood as he scored a game-high 36 points as the Tigers defeated District 14B foe Edgemont 83-48 in boys basketball action.
The Tigers led 31-20 at halftime and outscored the Moguls 28-10 in the third quarter to break open a 59-30 lead.
New Underwood shot 54 percent (31-of-57) from the field while Edgemont hit 31 percent (16-of-51).
Arron Mower netted six 3-pointers en route to a team-high 24 points for Edgemont. Josh Barker added 11 points and seven rebounds.
Edgemont (5-11) travels to R.C. Christian on Tuesday. New Underwood, 8-3, hosts Harding County today.
GIRLS GAMES
Chamberlain 36, Mobridge 27
CHAMBERLAIN - Chamberlain outscored Mobridge 10-3 in the final quarter to take a 36-27 girls Big Dakota Conference win.
Chamberlain's Jackie Willard scored a game-high 15 points. Kelsey Schindler netted eight points and paced the team with 10 boards.
Erin Rabenberg led Mobridge with 13 points.
Mobridge, 4-9 overall, entertains Webster tonight in a doubleheader. Chamberlain, 3-12 overall, goes on the road to face Platte on Tuesday.
Philip 58, Lemmon 38
PHILIP - Sierra Hook scored 17 and Marrisa Hook added 14 as Philip downed Lemmon 58-38 in a non-conference game.
The Scotties held the Cowgirls to only 16 points in the second and third quarters to seal the win.
Bobbi Beer led Lemmon with 11 points.
Philip held a 34-23 advantage on the boards as Hook led the Scotties with seven.
Phillip (5-6) returns to Western Great Plains Conference action tonight when they travel to Wall to play the Eagles.
Lemmon (5-8) has a Little Moureau Conference game with Faith on Monday in Lemmon.
