HARRISON, Neb. - Hay Springs, Neb., downed Edgemont 71-47 in a boys basketball game on Monday night in the Sioux County Pre-Holiday tournament.
Hay Springs led 13-5 after the first quarter and built on its lead from there.
"We had a tough time against their press," said Edgemont head coach Dave Cortney. "If we could have gotten our shots to fall like our last couple of games, we could have been right in there."
Isaac Hughes led Hay Springs with 17 points. Travis Kuhn and Lars Backward added 14 points apiece for the winners.
The Moguls got 12 points from Josh Barker and 10 from Aaron Mower. Danny Cassens scored eight points and grabbed eight rebounds for Edgemont before fouling out.
Edgemont will be back in action tonight in a consolation game.
PLATTE-GEDDES 74, SOUTH CENTRAL 61
BONESTEEL - Four players scored in double figures as Platte-Geddes defeated South Central 74-61 in a South Central Conference high school boys basketball action.
Platte led at every quarter stop 15-11 after a quarter and 40-31 at the half. The Black Panthers held the Cougars to only six points in the third quarter, 58-37.
Collin Ringling led the Black Panthers with 15 points. Jordan Johnson (14 points), Keith Cutler (13) and Thad Campbell (12) followed consecutively.
Tyler Fernau netted 20 to lead the home team. Teammate Shane Ebsen added 15.
Platte-Geddes (3-0) plays in tournament action in Parkston on Dec. 27. South Central
(1-1) travels to Scotland tonight.
GIRLS GAMES
Colome 58, South Central 45
BURKE - Colome built a nine-point lead by halftime and went on to beat South Central 58-45 in a South Central Conference game Monday.
The Cowgirls built a 12-6 lead at the first quarter break and led 30-21 at halftime.
Alisyn Graesser tossed in 17 points and Collene Cahoy followed with 16 to lead Colome. Emily London chipped in 10 points for the Cowgirls.
Steph Warnke led South Central with 10 points.
The Cougars (1-2) are off until Dec. 27, when South Central takes part in the Plankinton Holiday Classic.
Hay Springs, Neb. 52, Edgemont 40
HARRISON, Neb. - Hay Springs, Neb. stopped Edgemont 52-40 in a Sioux County Pre-Holiday tournament game on Monday night.
Brenna Jungck scored a game-high 20 points for Hay Springs in the win.
Chyla Koller and Josie Thomsen scored 10 points apiece to lead the Moguls.
Hay Springs led by seven at the intermission, 26-19 and outscored Edgemont 26-21 in the second half to secure the win.
"We are improving," said Edgemont head coach Justin Heidebrink.
Edgemont will play again tonight in Harrison in a consolation game.
Tiospaye Topa 42, Bison 35
BISON - Kelly Laurenz scored 11 points as Tiospaye Topa topped Bison 42-35 in Monday night girls basketball action.
Emily Chapman scored a game-high 15 points for Bison. Teammate Alyssa Kolb chipped in 11.
Bison (0-4 overall) travels to Dupree on Thursday. Tiospaye Topa (2-3) is off until Jan. 7 when the Thunderhawks travel to McIntosh-Isabel.
