The 2008 Northern Bull Riding Tour Championship Finals and Make-A-Wish Weekend were held Oct. 4 and Oct. 5 at the W. H. Lyons Fairgrounds in Sioux Falls.
Twenty of the top NBRT bull riders and eight of the top NBRT Young Guns, which range in age from 13 to 16, competed for year-end championship points and event average championship points.
The championship finals on Oct. 4 featured two go-rounds. The first-round winner was Onida's Jeff Assman with a score of 80 points. Second-round championship winner was Rapid City's William Davey with a score of 82 points.
The Oct. 5 championship finals featured a third go-round. Charlie Zoss, of Forestburg, was the winner with a score of 80 points. The championship round featured the top 10 bull riders competing for year-end and event points standings.
Emerging as overall winners of the 2008 Northern Bull Riding Tour were Belvidere's Clay Hindman, year-end champion; Shawn Coleman, of Springfield, finals average champion; and Logan Beckett, of Rapid City, young guns champion.
The top 20 NBRT bull riders and year-end point standings were: Clay Hindman, of Belvidere, 141 1/2 points; Shawn Coleman, of Springfield, 119; Jeff Assman, of Onida; 106; Andrew Coughlin, of DeSmet, 79 1/2; Taylor Cowan, of Pierre, 77 1/2; Waylon Wise, of Hidden Timber, 74 1/2; Cody Schultz, of Tulare, 70; TR Stirling, of Highmore, 47 1/2; Jeff Bertrus, of Avon, 44; Charlie Zoss, of Forestburg, 41; William Davey, of Rapid City, 38; Chris Kuemper, of Ree Heights, 33 1/2; Ryan Littau, of Ainsworth, Neb., 27 1/2; Weston Hartmann, of Piedmont, 25 1/2; Tyrel Carson, of Rapid City, 21; Kole Wynia, of Avon, 19 1/2; Ty Eisenbraun, of Creighton, 18; Evan Brakke, of Presho, 7.5; and Cody Peterson, of Crooks, seven; Steve Beckman, of Brookings, and Brandon Williams, of Tyndall, had six points each.
The top eight NBRT Young Guns and year-end standings were: Logan Beckett, of Rapid City, 75 points; Jake Etzkorn, of Pierre, 44 1/2; Joe Bertus, of Avon, 37; Lane Scott, of Presho, 27 1/2; Joel Liebel, of Avon, and Dylan Madsen, of Presho, 19 each; Wyatt Martin, of Howes, nine; and Hesston Steinfurth, of Parker, eight.
