More downs Gillette in shortened match

RAPID CITY - St. Thomas More/Rapid City Christian downed Gillette, Wyo., 3-1 in a girls tennis dual that featured only doubles play due to inclement weather in Rapid City on Saturday.

For the Cavaliers, Aisling Gould and Cheyenne Rafort defeated Whitney Hill and Karlina Friedlan 6-2, 6-0. Alexis Haakadahl and Catherine Gibbens downed Taylor Young and Chandler McGovern 6-2, 6-3.

Beth Ferrier and Kate Young earned Gillette's win with a 6-3, 3-6 and 10-5 victory over Denali Raforth and Marin Plumb.

The Cavaliers travel to Spearfish on Thursday and host Todd County on Saturday.

RAPID CITY STEVENS 9, ST. THOMAS MORE/RAPID CITY CHRISTIAN 0: Lauren Shultz, Morgan Paluch and Sydney Moyle each recorded a win for Rapid City Stevens in the top three singles spots in a girls tennis make-up dual with St. Thomas More/Rapid City Christian originally scheduled for Thursday, but postponed due to weather.

The Cavaliers' Denali Raforth put up a fight in No. 5 singles, but fell to Kelly Feehan, 6-2, 3-6, 10-3.

In No. 1 doubles, Shultz and Paluch teamed up for a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Aisling Gould and Cheyenne Raforth.

The Raiders travel to Sturgis on Tuesday.
