Firecracker round-up: Missoula edges Cheyenne with six-run inning

Missoula 8, Cheyenne 4

Missoula, Mont., scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, rallying for an 8-4 victory over Cheyenne, Wyo., in Wednesday morning action at the Black Hills Community Bank Firecracker Tournament.

The Mavericks trailed 4-2 before stringing together five hits, two walks, a hit-by-pitch and a Cheyenne error.

Coon Rapids 4, Cheyenne 2

Joe Brinda hurled a complete game six-hitter, leading Coon Rapids, Minn., past Cheyenne, Wyo., 4-2.

Brinda allowed two first-inning runs, one of them unearned, then held Cheyenne scoreless over the final six frames. He did not record a strikeout and walked only one batter in the winning effort.

West Warwick 6, Coon Rapids 5

Cameron Brown smacked a two-run double into the right-center field gap, giving West Warwick, R.I., a 6-5 come-from-behind victory over Coon Rapids, Minn., on Wednesday.

Trailing by a run in the seventh, West Warwick used a walk and an error to set the table for Brown, who finished with two hits and five of the Rhode Island's six RBI. He also hit a three-run homer in the third.

Rocky Mountain 3, Missoula 2

Rocky Mountain (Colo.) is the last unbeaten team at the tournament.

In a battle of perfect tournament squads, Rocky Mountain handed Missoula, Mont., a 3-2 defeat.

Marco Gonzalez tossed a complete game four-hitter, and drove in the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth.

Merced 10, Las Vegas 7

Five Merced, Calif., players had two or more hits as the Volunteers defeated Las Vegas, 10-7.

Tynan Pedretti led the Volunteer attack going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Connor Oldcorn doubled, tripled and drove in two, while Marco Ledesma, Art Corona and Garrett Boothe also had two hits.
