RAPID CITY - Spearfish's Carson Wika won the boys title and Lead's Danielle Bellet was victorious on the girls side during the SDGA Wells Fargo Junior Tour event at the Golf Club at Red Rock on Thursday.

Wika, 17, recorded three birdies, including a pair of deuces, and five bogeys in his 2-over-par round of 74. The 18-year-old Bellet carded a 76 after three birdies, five bogeys and a double-bogey.

"It was a pretty good round, I guess," Wika said. "You know, I had two chip-in birdies."

Red Rock member Mac Young fired a 76 and won a scorecard playoff for second place. Young and Wika were back-and-forth all day.

Young led by as many as two shots, but a double-bogey 6 on No. 6 - the group's 14th hole of the day - dropped him back into a tie with Wika at 2-over. After they both tallied pars on the par-4 seventh, Wika opened up a two-shot lead after he birdied the par-3 eighth and Young bogeyed. Both golfers had bogey 6s on No. 9 before recording pars on the par-4 10th to close out the round.

Rapid City's Brogan Pappel, who won the first three events in the West Region this season, was third at 76, while Rapid City's Andrew Warren (77) and Josh Pappel (78) took fourth and fifth, respectively.

On the girls side, Bellet won by seven shots. It was her third win in as many tries.

"I played pretty good," she said. "I've been working on some things, getting a couple lessons, and so it was working out for me today and I made some good birdies."

Rapid City's Megan Byram was second at 83 and Piedmont's Brianna Dodge ended up in third with an 89. Belle Fourche's Ashley Watson, last week's winner in Pierre, tied for sixth at 97.

"I putted really well today," Bellet said, adding that the greens were quite fast. "I lag-putted really good and I made a couple birdie putts."

In other action for the girls, Erin Cheever won the age 14-15 division with a score of 85. Rapid City's Sydney James (age 12-13) and Belle Fourche's Jade Burr (11-and-under) carded nine-hole scores of 52 and 60, respectively, to win their divisions.

For the boys, Alzada's Joseph Courtney won the age 14-15 division after a 3-over 75. Hot Springs' P.J. Wetzel (age 12-13) won with an 83, while Brody Remmers (11-under) came out on top with a nine-hole tally of 43.

The next event in the West Region is June 26 at Meadowbrook Golf Course in Rapid City.
