VERMILLION - The University of South Dakota has announced the Coyote football team will face Illinois State for a three-game series starting in 2011.
Illinois State competes at the Division I FCS level and is a member of the Missouri Valley League. Brock Spack is entering his first year as Illinois State's head coach, taking over a program that finished 3-8 in 2008.
The first meeting between the two teams will take place on Oct. 15, 2011 at Hancock Stadium in Normal, Ill. Illinois State will then travel to Vermillion to take on the Coyotes on Sept. 29, 2012, in a contest at the DakotaDome.
The third meeting will take place on Oct. 19, 2013, at Hancock Stadium in Normal.
The 2011 contest will mark the first meeting ever between USD and Illinois State in football.
The Coyotes are entering the second year of their transition to Division I FCS status. They open the 2009 season on Sept. 3 at home against William Penn.
Five athletes and two special contributors to be inducted into Coyote Sports Hall of Fame on Sept. 19: The University of South Dakota has announced that five former student-athletes and special contributors, John Waltner and Mike Mahon, will be inducted into the Coyote Sports Hall of Fame at noon on Sept. 19 at the Muenster University Center.
Former athletes Elena (Swan) Davis of Fontana, Calif.; Kurt Seibel of Vermillion; James Foster of Alexandria, Pa.; Steve Gordon of Omaha, Neb.; and Shane Murphy of Sioux Falls, will join Waltner of Sioux Falls, and Mahon of West Des Moines, Iowa, in the induction ceremony of the Class of 2009. USD will also recognize the 1992-1993 and 1993-1994 men's basketball teams which earned back-to-back trips to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight as part of the Hall of Fame's Special Achievements recognition.
The induction ceremony will begin at noon. USD will also honor the inductees during halftime of the Coyotes' home game with Drake University at the DakotaDome.
