RAPID CITY - The South Dakota School of Mines football team will hold an intrasquad scrimmage today at 1 p.m. on Dunham Field at O'Harra Stadium in Rapid City.
The public is welcome to attend to sample how the Hardrocker football program will look this season.
Mines first game is slated for Aug. 30 at 6 p.m. at O'Harra Stadium against Haskell Indian Nations University.
Mike Coley Baseball Tournament dates set
RAPID CITY - The second annual Mike Coley Baseball Tournament will be played in Rapid City over the Labor Day weekend, beginning Aug. 29 and ending with the championship game Sept. 1 at 10 a.m.
Games will be played on McKeague and Pete Lien Fields in Rapid City. All games are free to the public and game times are 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
The tournament is in honor of the late Mike Coley, of Rapid City, a great amateur baseball player who died of lung cancer in 2007. All players will be 48 years and older and will play by all baseball rules. Five teams are entered as of Thursday - the Denver Shredders, Custer Geezers, SD Pheasants, of Sioux Falls, the SD Rushmores over 65 team and Rapid City over 50 - and there is room for one more team.

Lady Hardrockers add new
assistant hoops coach
RAPID CITY - The South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball team has added Rachel Janzen to the coaching staff for the 2008-2009 season.
Janzen played four years herself for the Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Okla., graduating in December, 2007 with a degree in kinesiology along with a minor in coaching and received the graduating honor of Magna Cum Laude.
"Rachel comes to us from a proven NAIA university," Mines head coach Barb Felderman said. "She knows what it takes to be successful."
After graduating, Janzen became an assistant varsity hoops coach and head junior varsity coach at Western Heights High School in Oklahoma City, Okla., for one season. She's also furthered her coaching skills interning for Southern Nazarene University athletic department, assisting the athletics director, marketing camps and coaching teams.
"I am very competitive," Janzen said. "I have lived my basketball career - and still today - with the motto 'you always miss 100 percent of the shots you don't take.' Coaching has always been my passion and I look forward to the challenges ahead of me at SDSM&T."
As an assistant coach, Janzen will focus a lot of her efforts on recruitment.
"With her knowledge and enthusiasm we know she will be a great addition to Lady Hardrocker basketball," Felderman added.
USF wrestling announces Cory Wellnitz as top assistant
SIOUX FALLS - University of Sioux Falls head wrestling coach Tim Homan announced the addition of Cory Wellnitz to the Cougar coaching staff.
Wellnitz, 27, will be Homan's top assistant and will be instrumental with USF's recruiting efforts.
Wellnitz attended Northern State University from 2000-2005 and was a two-time conference champion, wrestling at 197. As a senior at Northern, Wellnitz was an All American wrestler, finishing eighth at nationals.
A native of Milbank, Wellnitz attended Milbank High School where as a senior he placed third at the state tournament, wrestling at 189.
"We're excited to have Cory become an integral part of our program," Homan said. "He'll add a lot with his experience and competitive nature. He is a quality individual and our wrestlers will benefit from his input."
