Both Rapid City Stevens and Rapid City Central lost a pair of matches at the Greater Dakota Conference Volleyball Duals in Sioux Falls.
Stevens won the first two sets against Sioux Falls Washington, 25-21, 25-23 before dropping the final three to lose the match,
25-27, 14-25, 13-15.
Margaret McCloud and Kacey Herrmann led the way for the Raiders with 12 and 11 kills, respectively.
Elaine Balsley added 19 assists and McCloud had three aces.
"We played amazing and we fought with two of the best teams in the state," Stevens head coach Josh Lien said. "We let Washington escape us. The scores are close and we were right there."
Sioux Falls Roosevelt would down the Raiders in three sets 26-24, 25-22,
25-21.
Herrmann had 11 kills and Balsley had 12 assists.
The losses dropped Stevens to 1-4 on the season.
The Cobblers fell to Roosevelt, 15-25, 15-25, 11-25, as Lauren Tadlock had seven kills and 10 digs.
The Cobblers did get a game from Washington but fell 25-23, 25-18, 21-25, 25-19.
Tadlock had 11 kills and Alicia Sullivan had 20 digs.
"When we played Roosevelt we had no serve-receive and couldn't run our offense," Central head coach Shelly Wolfe said. "The longer we played the better we did get."
Central moved to 1-4 on the season.
Both Spearfish and Sturgis found the going tough on Friday.
The Spartans and Scoopers were both swept in three games against Sioux Falls Lincoln and
O'Gorman.
Lincoln defeated Sturgis, 25-13, 25-10, 25-18 and
O'Gorman defeated Sturgis, 25-18, 25-21, 25-20.
Spearfish fell to Lincoln, 25-18, 25-19, 25-19 and
O'Gorman bettered Spearfish 25-12, 25-19 and 25-21.
The Scoopers and Spartans will take on Sioux Falls Roosevelt and Sioux Falls Washington today to wrap up the duals.
HAY SPRINGS, NEB. 3, EDGEMONT 0: The Edgemont girls volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season in three sets to Hay Springs, Neb., 25-20, 25-19, 25-15, on Friday.
Liz Humiston led the way for Edgemont with 10 kills, Lacy Stevens added seven kills and seven digs, and Jamye Manke had 16 assists.
Edgemont (9-1 overall) is at Lead-Deadwood on Tuesday.
COLLEGE VOLLEYBALLSouth Dakota Mines dropped a pair of matches at the Graceland Volleyball Tournament in Lamoni, Iowa on Friday.
MINES DROPS TWO:
No. 20 Lidenwood University of St. Charles, Mo., downed Mines,
25-22, 25-18, 24-26, 26-24 in the opening match of the day.
Mines held a 19-9 lead in the fourth set, but couldn't close out the match to force a fifth set.
Madisen Lane led the Hardrocker attack with 13 kills. Rachel Pekarek and Katherine Hanson contributed 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
Hanson had 20 digs with Reanna Roberson adding 19.
Becky Keilhotz tallied 23 assists with Alex Mader chipping in 18 for Mines.
Mt. Mercy then knocked off Mines in three straight games, winning 25-23, 25-20, 25-20 in the nightcap.
Mines (1-9 overall) will be back in action today at the tourney.
