Rapid City Stevens claimed the boys title and Sioux Falls Roosevelt won the girls at the Huron Cross Country Invitational on Saturday at the Broadland Creek Golf Course in Huron.
The Raider boys amassed 67 points to claim the win as Sioux Falls Roosevelt was second with 82 points. Sioux Falls Washington took third with 88 points.
Aberdeen Central was fourth, with Pierre finishing fifth.
Pierre's Alec Espeland took the boys invitational title with a winning run of 15 minutes, 44 seconds.
Stevens' Riley Coates finished third with a time of 16:02 with Jake Arechigo, of Sioux Falls Roosevelt, fourth and Damien Schuster, of Sturgis fifth.
Tom Kjerengtroen and Nate Richardson picked up top 10 finishes for the Raiders with an eighth- and ninth-place finishes respectively for Stevens.
Douglas' Casey Coates finished 15th with the Spartans' Jared Hicks holding down the 16th spot.
Rapid City Central freshman Tony Smoragiewicz finished 18th despite running the race with only one shoe. The other one got knocked off during the race.
Roosevelt cruised to the girls win, scoring a stellar 23 points. The Rough Riders had five runners in the top 10.
Aberdeen Central came in second with 76 points. Watertown finished with 121 points for third place. Rapid City Stevens came in fourth, followed by Douglas.
Sturgis' Madeleine Takahashi crossed the line in 15:26 to take first.
Sarah Coomes grabbed seventh for Rapid City Stevens.
Douglas' Bailey Eich ran to a ninth-place finish for the Patriots. Karley Konkol led the Custer runners with an 18th-place showing. Beth Coates led the Cobblers with a 42nd place finish.
PREP GIRLS TENNIS
CENTRAL GOES 1-2 AT ABERDEEN TOURNAMENT: Rapid City Central went 1-2 in the Burt Elliott Extravaganza in Aberdeen on Saturday in high school tennis action.
The Cobblers lost for the second time in two days to Aberdeen Central as the Golden Eagles prevailed 8-1 in the first match.
Central then rebounded with a 6-3 win over Huron before Watertown recorded a 9-0 win to close out the day.
Hallie Sims had Central's only win against the Golden Eagles at No. 1 singles.
Central then won five of the six singles matches in the match against Huron as Sims, Rochelle Flynn, Kaia Erickson, Kelsey Smith and Claire Porter all won their respective matches.
Central will now participate in the Greater Dakota Conference Tournament in Sioux Falls on Monday and Tuesday.
STEVENS RAIDERS ROLL TO 18-1 ON THE SEASON: Rapid City Stevens didn't lose a single match as the Raiders moved to 18-1 on the year in Aberdeen on Saturday at the Burt Elliott Extravaganza.
The Raiders defeated Huron, Pierre and Milbank by scores of 9-0 on Saturday.
"The team knew that our goal was not to lose any matches for seeding purposes, a 45-0 day only happens a few times ever," Stevens coach Jason Olson said. "Everyone did their job."
The Pierre Governors didn't go down so easy. Cassie Malik defeated Rika Beck 8-4 in a No. 4 singles match and Kelsie Dubon earned an 8-5 win over Deidra Black at No. 6 singles.
Lauren Shultz and Morgan Paluch won the No. 1 doubles 8-5 over Crystal Ortbahn and Megan Vockrodt. Dubon and Black met again in the No. 3 doubles match as Sydney Moyle and Dubon earned an 8-5 Raider victory.
Against Huron, Kelly Feehan won a close match over the Tigers' Ela Osborn 9-7 at No. 5 singles.
"These girls played 15 hours of tennis this weekend," Olson said. "Our focus now is the GDC. We need to get some rest and practice in for these upcoming matches."
The Raiders will open the Greater Dakota Conference tournament with Sioux Falls Lincoln and Washington on Monday. Stevens wraps up the tournament with O'Gorman and Roosevelt on Tuesday.
