Perkins Classic: Lights shine over Hardrockers

SPEARFISH - Montana State Northern put the clamps on in the second half and came away with a 75-57 triumph over South Dakota Mines in the Perkins Classic on Friday at the Young Center.

The Lights (10-3) led 36-33 at the intermission, but held the Hardrockers to only 24 points over the final 20 minutes to seal the win.

MSN had four players score in double digits.

Delvaughn Tinned and Andrew Sellars scored 15 points apiece while Derek Trembley added 14 and Travis Noble 12 points and seven assists for the winners.

For the game the Lights went 27-of-53 from the floor.

The Hardrockers were led by Robie Fedor's 11 points.

Kyle Kurth off the Rocker bench, scored six points, grabbed a team-high five rebounds and handed out five assists in his 11 minutes of playing time.

Mines struggled in the final 20 minutes as they went only 8-of-26 from the field. For the game they were 20-of-57.

Shelton grabbed 11 rebounds as the Lights held a slim 37-35 advantage.

Mines (4-10) will take on Dordt College in the first game tonight at 4 p.m. while Montana State Northern will take on Black Hills State at 6 p.m. in the nightcap of the Perkins Classic.
