LAS VEGAS - Rapid City's Scott Montague tied for second in bareback on Sunday during the fourth round of the National Finals Rodeo at the Thomas and Mack Center.

The South Dakota cowboy earned $11,370 after posting an 85-point ride. He is 13th overall with a score of 320 on four head.

Bobby Mote of Culver, Ore., who leads the PRCA world standings with $168,577, won the bareback with a score of 85-1/2. It was his first winning round of the NFR, and he was victorious despite having his horse run into the wall and change direction.

"It took a couple of points away, I guess, but then he was good off the fence again," Mote said. "I just tried to stay as aggressive as I could and, fortunately, they rewarded me for it."

Kelly Timberman, the overall event leader at the NFR with 339 points, tied for second with Montague.

In barrel racing, Terra Bynum of Colorado City, Texas, placed first in a time of 13.87 seconds. PRCA standings leader Brittany Pozzi-Pharr of Victoria, Texas, was third in 14.09 and increased her money total to $190,698, almost $50,000 more than second-place competitor Lindsay Sears of Canada. Pozzi-Pharr also moved into the event lead with a time of :56.33 on four runs.

The South Dakota barrel racers lost some ground on Sunday. Jill Moody of Letcher was 14th in the fourth round with a run of :19.25, while Oelrichs' Lisa Lockhart, a NFR rookie, was 15th at :19.36.

Moody entered the round in third, before dropping to 10th with an overall time of :61.53. Lockhart, the event leader entering Sunday's competition, fell to 11th (:61.55).

Heith DeMoss won for the first time in the NFR, taking the fourth round of the saddle bronc with an 86.5-point ride on Big Jet.

DeMoss, from Crowville, La., celebrated his victory with a dance in the arena.

"I just get a little excited," said DeMoss, a 21-year-old NFR rookie. "I was just kind of whirled. I didn't know what to do. It's unexplainable. For a kid who has wanted this his whole life, I don't know what to say. It's a dream come true."

Cody DeMoss, Heith's older brother and the 2006 regular-season leader, dropped to second in the PRCA world standings, with Cody Wright of Milford, Utah, moving into the lead. Wright placed second in the round with an 84 to move his season earnings to $142,937, while Cody DeMoss has $134,349.

Camp Crook's Jesse Bail placed in the money on Sunday, earning $2,644 after a ride of 81 (sixth place).

Oelrichs cowboy and defending world champion Chad Ferley had his first successful ride of this year's NFR. He placed seventh with an 80-1/2. Billy Etbauer of Edmond, Okla., failed to post a score.

Belvidere's Jeff Willert, who fractured his femur during Friday's second round and will miss the rest of the competition, is still in eighth overall in the saddle bronc with 164 points. Bail (152-1/2 points), Etbauer (84) and Ferley (80) are in 13th through 15th, respectively.

The steer wrestling event saw Canada's Lee Graves, and Sean Mulligan of Coleman, Okla., tie for first with times of 3.7 seconds.

Highmore's Jake Rinehart ended a bad streak and posted his first time of the NFR - he finished 10th in a time of :8.7. Rinehart is still in 15th overall.

Trevor Brazile of Decatur, Texas, and Patrick Smith of Midland, Texas, won the fourth round of team roping with a time of :4.0.

Brazile increased his first-place total in the PRCA all-around standings to $325,868. He is the first person in NFR history to earn at least $300,000 in consecutive years.

In bull riding, J.W. Harris of May, Texas, won with an 85-point ride on High Waters. It was Harris' second NFR win of the season and occurred during a round when he and Cody Hancock of Taylor, Ariz., who had an 82 on Stockland Livestock, were the lone two competitors out of 15 who had successful rides.

In tie-down roping, Matt Shiozawa of Chubbuck, Idaho, won with a 7.7-second run.
