RAPID CITY - The South Dakota School of Mines men's basketball program will host its annual Hardrocker Basketball Individual Skills Camp for boys in grades 5-12 on July 27 through July 30 at the King Center.

The camp is for overnight campers and commuters and will feature video shot analysis along with contests and prizes. The cost is $225 for overnight campers, which includes three nights of lodging and eight meals, and $165 for commuters, which includes five meals. The deadline for early registration was Tuesday, but late entries will be allowed on a limited basis.

The camp allows individuals to improve their fundamental skills, develop their understanding of basketball and teach good sportsmanship.

The camp will emphasize the fundamentals of shooting, passing, dribbling, rebounding, offensive movement and defensive footwork.

Miles Community College to host individual camp

MILES CITY, Mont. - Miles Community College will host an individual basketball camp this month.

The Offensive Skill Development Camp is a three-day intense teaching camp that will help the individual basketball player to improve fundamental skills.

The camp will run July 27 through July 29 and is open to any boy or girl entering grades 8-12. The camp costs $160 for those staying on campus or $120 for those commuting. MCC is offering a $20 discount if two or more players from the same high school attend.

The camp will cover the following topics: ball handling, shot preparation, shooting fundamentals, scoring moves, free throw shooting and creating your own shot.

Annalee's Memorial 10K run planned for Aug. 9

CRAZY HORSE - The 12th annual Annalee's Memorial 10K race will be run Aug 9.

The race is on the Mickelson Trail and will begin in front of Crazy Horse Memorial and wind down the trail to finish at Harbach Park in front of the visitors center in Custer.

Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. at the visitors center. Transportation to the start will begin at

7:30 a.m. and the race will start at 8 a.m. T-shirts will be given to the first 50 entrants, and medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in five age groups.

Larry Ventling and Linda Lintz, the parents of Annalee Ventling, will provide a meal for all the runners after the race. All runners will need a South Dakota Game Fish & Parks trail pass. Southern Hills Right to Life is the sponsor and entry for the race will be a donation to Southern Hills Right to Life scholarship fund, the race sponsor. Disc golf tournament lights up the night sky

RAPID CITY - The ninth annual Night and Day Disc Golf event, presented by the Black Hills Disc Golf Confederacy, was Saturday. The field totaled 55 participants, and players competed in an evening round, followed by a night round played with glowsticks on all baskets and discs.

In the Advanced division, Rapid City's John Anderson led all players with an 89 and finished two strokes ahead of Chad Larson of Lawrence, Kan.

In the Masters division, Scott Caesar, of Rapid City, defeated Kayne Larimer by two strokes, carding a score of 91. Steve Bernard finished third with a score of 97.

The large field in the Intermediate division was led by Brice Johnson, of Rapid City, as he carded a score of 102, one stroke ahead of Tyler Scovell and Justin Cournoyer.

The Recreational division was won by Mark Gouldner, shooting 109, with second place going to Justin Hirchert and Graham Heberlig, both carding a 115.

The Women's division was secured by Theresa O'Connell, of Rapid City, with a score of 130. Brenda Bure, of Hill City, came in second with a 132. Nelson Horsley won the junior division, carding a 117.

Heart of the Hills run set for Saturday in Hill City

HILL CITY - The Annual Heart of the Hills Run will be Saturday beginning at the 1880 Train parking lot in Hill City.

Registration for the 10.4 mile run will be from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., with the race starting promptly at 6:30 p.m.

Awards will be given to the overall winner in the men's and women's division and to the top three in each age division.
