Black Hills State came away with a split in a pair of games at the Carroll College Volleyball Classic in Helena, Mont., on Friday.
Black Hills State defeated Montana Tech 36-34, 25-14,
25-15 in the fist game at the PE Center on the Carroll College campus and then lost to the host team Carroll College 19-25, 25-21, 25-13, 27-25 in the nightcap.
Kristen Engle recorded 12 kills and had two blocks in the match with Carroll. Mandy Brumfield dished out 40 assists with Maggie O'Neill adding three aces and 15 digs. Corrina Sweets also had 15 digs for the Yellow Jackets.
O'Neill had 13 kills to lead the Yellow Jackets in the win over Montana Tech. Brumfield had 28 assists and five aces to go along with 15 digs. Engle had eight blocks and Kylee Lamb had two digs for BHSU.
Black Hills is the defending Dakota Athletic Conference champion in volleyball.
The Yellow Jackets (1-2 on the young season), lost to Carroll College team 25-19, 25-22, 16-25, 25-21 on Thursday night before the tournament started.
Black Hills will take on the University of Great Falls at 9 a.m. and Rocky Mountain College at 3:00 p.m. today to close out the tourney.
