The annual Rapid City

Elementary Track Meet and Clinic is set for April 19 at the Sioux Park track. Registration, check-in and the clinic start at 12:30 p.m., with the meet starting at

2 p.m.

The cost is $25 per child, which includes warm-ups and the track and field clinic, on-the-field coaching during the clinic provided by local high school coaches and athletes and it allows athletes to enter in two field events, three running events and one relay.

There is also a camp T-shirt, Tootsie Pops for all finishers in each running event and prizes if entered online by April 18. The grand prize is a Nintendo Wii.

Douglas track meet moved to Tuesday

The Douglas Early Bird Track Meet scheduled for Saturday at Patriot Stadium has been postponed until Tuesday.

Field events will begin at 9:30 a.m. with running events at 10 a.m.

Softball games in Chadron cancelled

Eight softball games, featuring teams from Chadron State College, Nebraska-Kearney, Fort Lewis and Mesa State scheduled to be played Friday through Sunday in Chadron, have been cancelled, CSC athletic director Brad Smith said on Thursday.

The games were called off because of the forecasted bad weather and the poor field conditions at the CSC Softball Field.

NDSU's Winkelman

up for award

North Dakota State senior Brett Winkelman is one of five basketball players and four coaches selected as finalists for the prestigious Chip Hilton and Clair Bee awards to be presented by Chip Hilton Sports and the National Association of Basketball Coaches at the Final Four in Detroit on Sunday.

Chip Hilton Sports began presenting the awards in 1997 as a way to honor outstanding excellence and character in college basketball during the season.

The selection committee is composed of Dan Beebe, Jay Bilas, Dave Gavitt, Bob Hammel, Bob Knight, Pat Knight, Billy Packer, Dean Smith and Dick Vitale.

The coaching finalists for the Clair Bee Award are Mike Anderson, of Missouri; Brad Greenberg, of Radford; Trent Johnson, of LSU; Andy Kennedy, of Mississippi.

The player finalists for the Chip Hilton Award are A.J. Abrams, of Texas; Jon Brockman, Washington; Tyler Hansbrough, of North Carolina; Jason Holsinger, of Evansville; and Winkelman, of North Dakota State.

DWU baseball game moved up a day

Because of the threat of bad weather in Sioux City, Iowa, on Saturday the Dakota Wesleyan University baseball doubleheader against Morningside College will now be played today.

Originally, the Great Plains Athletic Conference twin bill was scheduled to be Sunday in Mitchell. However, Wednesday it was rescheduled for Saturday in Sioux City at 1:30 p.m. Now, the doubleheader will take place Friday in Sioux City at 3 p.m. to try to get the games in before bad weather hits Iowa this weekend.
