CHADRON, Neb. - Rapid City Central sophomore Jasmyne King broke the long jump and the 55-meter dash records at the Chadron State College High School Indoor track meet on Saturday.

King initially went 17-feet, 11-inches to set a new long jump record by four inches. King then clocked a time of 6.8 seconds in the 55-meter dash to shatter the old record. Amber Abrams of Central set the old record with an automated time of 7.14 seconds in 1999.

The rule of thumb in track is that 24 hundredths of a second is added to handheld times to make comparisons with automated times. Using that formula, King's time Saturday would calculate to 7.04 and is a new record.

King also holds the 200-meter dash meet record which she set two years ago as an eighth grader.

Central's Erin Fuhrman won the triple jump with a leap of 33-3. Hollie Bloom cleared 11 feet even to win the pole vault competition.

The Cobblers also clocked the fastest time in the 680-meter relay with a time of 1:35.2.

For the boys, the Cobbler distance runners proved golden.

Mike Krsnak posted the fastest time of 2:06 in the 800-meter run. Fellow runners Michael Starkey and Robert Yellowhawk finished 1-2 in the 3,200. The Cobbler 3,200-meter relay team also took first with a time of 8:49.1.

Four-tenths of a second separated Cobblers Jake Kabrud and Taylor Hill in the 200-meter dash. Kabrud and Taylor went 1-2 in the race with times of 24.3 and 24.7, respectively.

Taylor Hill cleared 6-feet even to win the high jump for the Cobblers.

In addition, Custer junior Darin Smith won the long jump by going 20-11 and the shot put with a throw of 46-10. The meet's shot put record was set by Smith's brother, Bobby, in 2000.
