VALLEY CITY, N.D. - Chauncey Calhoun ran for two touchdowns and caught touchdown pass Saturday to lead Valley City State to a 34-14 win over South Dakota Tech in the Dakota Athletic Conference.
Calhoun ran for 61 yards and scored on runs of 3 and 5 yards. He also caught a 3-yard TD pass from Jason Bielke. Calhoun caught 14 passes for 112 yards.
Bielke was 19-for-36 for 179 yards for the Vikings (5-4, 3-3), who held the Hardrockers (4-5, 2-4) to just 8 yards rushing.
Nick Russell was 24-for-47 for 293 yards, including a 24-yard TD toss to Andy Rogers. Russell and Trevor Roberts combined for 348 passing yards for Tech.
SIOUX FALLS 19, NORTHWESTERN IOWA 0: It seems as if there's no slowing down the USF defense.
The No. 2-ranked Cougars (8-0, 8-0 GPAC) completed another masterful performance, shutting out the No. 8-ranked Northwestern College Red Raiders (7-2, 7-2 GPAC), 19-0, Saturday afternoon at Bob Young Field.
South Dakota 63, North Greenville 0: Noah Shepard threw three touchdowns and rushed for another score and South Dakota used a strong second quarter to rout North Greenville 63-0 on Saturday.
Shepard, who went 10-of-12 for 125 yards, connected with Brandon White for a 9-yard passing score in the first quarter. He threw a 9-yard touchdown to Dustin Nowotny and passed for another 9-yard TD but to Dan Skelly in the second quarter to give the Coyotes (4-4) a 21-0 lead.
South Dakota totaled 521 yards on offense, while holding the Crusaders (2-8) to 101 yards.
SOUTH DAKOTA STATE 43, MISSOURI STATE 13: Ryan Berry threw for 268 yards and three touchdowns and Kyle Minett ran for 205 yards and a score as South Dakota State routed Missouri State 43-13 Saturday in the Missouri Valley Football Conference.
Berry was 20-for-26 for the Jackrabbits (5-4, 4-1), who outgained the Bears 580-200 in total yards.
WINONA STATE 41, AUGUSTANA 24: The Augustana football team committed six turnovers to help Winona State defeat the Vikings, 41-24, Saturday in Winona, Minn. The Vikings fall to 6-4 on the season and 6-3 in the NSIC, while Winona State improves to 6-4 overall, 6-3 in the league.
The Vikings outgained WSU in total yardage, 461 to 349, but the costly giveaways led to 14 Winona State points and flipped the field position several times in favor of the Warriors.
Dickinson St. 29, Dakota St. 15: Zach Hepperle ran for 116 yards and three touchdowns as Dickinson State beat Dakota State 29-15 Saturday to set up a Dakota Athletic Conference title game next week at Minot State.
Dickinson State (6-3, 6-0) has won six straight games since a 28-21 nonconference home loss to Minot State. The Beavers are 5-1 in the conference heading into Saturday's season finale.
SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE 39, NORTHERN STATE 32: Derek Townsend broke away from Northern State defenders on a slant and scored a 60-yard touchdown pass from Josh Shudlick with 1:38 left in the game to give Southwest Minnesota State a 39-32 win over Northern State on Saturday in Marshall.
The win for SMSU snapped a 16-game losing streak to NSU. The Mustangs had not defeated the Northern State since 1991.
The win also brought SMSU back to .500 at 5-5 overall and 5-4 in the NSIC. Southwest has not had a winning season since 1999. The loss for Northern drops the Wolves to 1-9 overall and 1-8 in the NSIC. The Mustangs travel to Minnesota State Moorhead next Saturday, Nov. 8 for that chance at a winning season.
