RAPID CITY - The Post 320 Stars returned to Pete Lien Field Monday night after winning the Bill Newhouse Memorial Tournament in Miles City, Mont., over the Fourth of July holiday and promptly won their 14th and 15th games in a row by sweeping a doubleheader from Chadron, Neb., by scores of 7-6 and 8-1.

The first game of the evening was a topsy-turvy affair going extra innings before Stars' third baseman Adam Carroll ended the game in walk-off fashion in the eighth inning by doubling to the base of the wall in center, scoring Josh Lowe who had reached earlier on an error.

The Stars had taken a 6-3 lead into the top of the seventh having scored five runs in the bottom half of the fifth against Chadron southpaw Casey Downs. Having garnered only a single hit until the fifth, the Stars rapped out four successive hits with the big blows a two-run double by Kyle Starkey and a two-run homer over the left field fence by Brad Winelman.

However, in the seventh Chadron rallied for three runs to send the game into extra innings against Stars starter Jared Jacobson and seventh inning reliever, Tyler Jones. Prior to the three-run rally, Jacobson had limited Chadron to three runs on six hits.

The Stars were energy efficient, totaling only six hits for the game with Chris Lindemann recording a triple. Chadron third baseman Jonn McLain had three hits for the losers.

Tyler Jones, who relieved Jacobson in the seventh, recorded the win while Downs was the hard-luck loser.

The second game began as a pitchers' duel between Winkelman, and Chadron right-hander Jake McLain. After the two hurlers traded a couple of scoreless innings, Lindemann grounded a sharp single to center with two out to score Tommy Barbour who had reached on a walk.

That would be the only run support Winkelman would need as he was dominant all night, allowing two hits while striking out 10.

Chadron scored a lone run in the final frame to spoil Winkelman's shutout bid. Only occasional wildness on his part kept the Chadron at-bats interesting as he mixed in seven walks with 10 strikeouts.

His teammates settled the issue in the fourth, erupting for six runs on three hits, two walks and a couple of hit batsmen. The hits in the inning were a Kyle Starkey triple into the right field corner, a run scoring single by Jacobson, and a ringing double to left center by Lindemann. Winkelman took 320 home from there.

Coach Brandt was relieved that the team played so well after a seven-game tournament set in Miles City.

'The kids were tired. I wasn't sure they would find their way to the ballpark tonight," he said. "But all in all it was good. We got to pitch a couple of kids who haven't pitched in a while and they performed well for us."

The game was over when …

Carroll hit his climactic game-winning double in the first game. The second game was settled when Post 320 put up six runs in the fourth. Winkelman did the rest.

Monday's MVP …

Winkelman hit a big home run in the first game and pitched a two- hitter in the second game.

On deck …

The Stars (29-10) travel to Sturgis today for a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. and return to Pete Lien Field for a Wednesday twinbill against Williston, N.D., and a Thursday double dip against Gehring, Neb., with games each night beginning at 5:30.
