Basketball roundup: Jones County edges Kadoka Area

MURDO - Andrew Bork scored a game-high 20 points as Jones County came from behind in the fourth quarter to defeat Kadoka Area 58-49 in a District 13B semifinal game.

The Kougars controlled the first half with a 17-8 lead after the first quarter and 27-19 at halftime. Kadoka held a 38-34 lead heading into the final stanza.

Kayde Bryan also broke into double-figure scoring for the Coyotes with 16 points.

Carter Uhlir paced the Kougars with 16 points including a game-high three 3s. Chris Byrd and Bryer Jones each scored 10 points for Kadoka (16-5 overall).

Jones County (16-5) will face White River for the district title tonight in Murdo.

DISTRICT 11A

FORT PIERRE - Chamberlain held off a late surge by Lyman to win the boys District 11A championship, 37-36, on Thursday.

"We put together a great defensive effort. Lyman came into the game on a nine-game winning streak. We contained their top two scorers and stopped their explosive offensive," Chamberlain head coach Allan Bertram said. "We shot poorly, but our defense carried us through."

Although Chamberlain shot a mere 32 percent from the field, Mike Johnson and Wade Hickey paced the Cubs with 11 points apiece. Joe Hieb scored 10.

Lyman's Tyler Ollerich led all scorers with 12 points. Lyman finishes the season 15-7.

Chamberlain, 13-9, advances to face the District 12A Champion on Monday for the Region 6A title at Pierre Riggs High School.

DISTRICT 12A

EAGLE BUTTE - Three players scored in double figures as Stanley County came from behind to slip past Mobridge 55-54 in overtime for the District 12A title.

Mobridge led 13-7 after the first and 23-14 at half. Stanley County chipped the lead to three, 31-28, heading into the final quarter of regulation.

Austin Iversen paced the Buffaloes with 15 points, while Trevor Lopour recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Zach Alexander also broke into double figures with 12 points.

Mobridge's Hunter Hook led all scorers with 28 points. Kyle Chase tallied 18 points and the Tigers' only double-double with 14 rebounds.

The Tigers had all the luck in the first round of the tournament. Skyler Frederick dialed long distance seven times including a game-winning three with 2 seconds left on the clock as Mobridge upset Cheyenne-Eagle Butte 45-42 on Tuesday. Mobridge finishes the season 7-15.

Stanley County, 12-11, advances to face Chamberlain in the Region 6A tilt.

DISTRICT 13A

WINNER - Keith Cutler scored 33 points as No. 5-ranked Platte-Geddes defeated No. 9-ranked Todd County 74-67 for the District 13A Championship.

The Black Panthers trailed 20-17 after the first quarter, but outscored the Falcons 23-14 in the second stanza to take the lead 40-34 at halftime.

Joining Cutler in double figures for the Black Panthers was Jordan Johnson with 17 points.

Todd County (18-4) was led by Jordan His Law with 19 points. Mark Dubray scored 17 points, Alex Prue had 11 and Gunner Krogman 10 for the Falcons.

The Black Panthers made 20-of-24 free throw attempts while the Falcons made only 11-of-23 attempts from the charity stripe.

Platte-Geddes (19-3) advances to the Region 7A championship game Tuesday night in Winner.

DISTRICT 6B

GETTYSBURG - No. 3-ranked Sully Buttes and Gettysburg earned berths in the District 6B title game with wins on Thursday.

Sully Buttes shot 32 percent from the field as the Chargers defeated Eureka-Bowdle 56-26. Zach Merwin paced the Chargers with 12 points.

Mitchell Hoellein was the only other scorer in double figures with 11 points for Eureka-Bowdle. The Patriots end the season with a 4-17 record.

Sean Luken scored a game-high 19 points and Jason Hanson netted 18 as Gettysburg downed Faulkton 68-55.

Teryn Combellick and Jared Schrempp combined for 22 points in the win.

Jason Schulz and Sheldon Bauer led Faulkton with 16 points apiece. Faulkton finishes the season 3-18 overall.

Sully Buttes (19-2 overall) and Gettysburg (5-16) meet tonight in Hoven to decide the District 6B championship.

DISTRICT 14B

WALL - New Underwood and Wall picked up semifinal wins to advance to the District 14B championship game tonight in Wall.

Jaron Finkbeiner netted 18 points as top-seeded New Underwood rolled to a 53-23 win over Edgemont.

The Tigers led 31-11 at intermission and held the Moguls to just two points in the third quarter.

Edgemont (7-14) was led by Josh Barker with 10 points.

Three players combined for 57 points as Wall defeated Rapid City Christian 72-56 in the other semifinal contest.

"We ran the fast-breaks well in the second half and finished on the offensive end," said Wall head coach Mark Ammann.

Sidney Geigle paced the Eagles with 21 points while Joe Besson and Darick Eisenbraun chipped in 18 points each.

Richard Stecher led Rapid City Christian (7-11 overall) with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Justin DiBona and Casey Marshall scored 13 and 12 points respectively for the Comets.

New Underwood (13-8) and Wall (11-10) split during the regular season, with each team winning on its home court.

DISTRICT 15B

MOBRIDGE - Grand River defeated the district No. 1-seed Timber Lake 57-51 and Campbell County dowsned Tiospaye Topa 60-42 in District 15B semifinal action.

Drew Seiler led Grand River with 29 points. Teammates Kyle Ley and Andrew Bridges also scored in double figures with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Jace Long paced Timber Lake with 17 points and Nathan Kraft tallied a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. The Panthers end the season 16-5.

Three players hit double-figure scoring for Campbell County. Kyle Weisbeck paced the Express with 19 points. Collin Vander Wal scored 16 and Sheldon Weisbeck added 15.

Tiospaye Topa's Carlton Veo led all scorers with 23 points including six 3s. The Thunderhawks finish the season 12-11.

Grand River (12-10) and Campbell County (16-4) tip off at 7:30 p.m. in Mobridge for the district title.

DISTRICT 16B

LEMMON - Takini edged Dupree 48-47 in overtime and Lemmon defeated Faith 54-52 in District 16B semifinal action.

Takini outscored top-seeded Dupree 16-8 in the final quarter to send the game into overtime and then outscored the Tigers 5-4 in the extra period for the win.

Gideon Hayes led the Skyhawks with 12 points.

Trey Young and Cody Holmes scored 13 points each to lead the Tigers and Clint Holmes added 11 points. Dupree finished the season 13-8.

Lemmon outscored Faith 12-10 in the final stanza to pick up the two-point victory.

Andrew Sackmann paced the Cowboys with 21 points and Tanner Gebhart chipped in 19 points. Sackmann and Gebhart combined for 10 3-pointers in the game.

Faith (12-9) was by Wayne Palmer's 19 points, followed by Jarret Inghram with 12 points and Lane Hildebrandt 10 for the Longhorns.

Takini (8-13) and Lemmon (13-8) will play for the district championship title tonight in Lemmon.
