RAPID CITY - Cherry Creek, Colo., pitcher Tito Nava tossed a two-hit shutout, fanning nine Post 22 hitters to win a 1-0 pitchers' duel Sunday night at Fitzgerald Stadium in the final game of the Rich Hinseth Agency Tournament.

Post 22 pitcher Jon Hass matched Nava and Cherry Creek the entire way, at one point retiring 11 straight hitters. But in the sixth inning, a routine fly ball down the left field line dropped into play putting the go-ahead run on second base. Corey Keller then hit an RBI double off the left field wall to score the unearned run.

"Hass threw the ball well enough to win," said Post 22 head coach Dave Ploof, "we had a mistake in the field that cost a run. Cherry Creek took advantage of our mistakes and that ended up being the difference in the game."

Post 22 threatened to score several times in the game, but were unable to capitalize. In the fourth, Parker Sullivan led off the inning with a walk. Jordan Mette followed with a sacrifice, moving Sullivan to second, setting the table for Dana Hill. Down 0-2 in the count, Hill drove a fastball back up the box for a single. Parker Sullivan was waved around third to score, but was gunned down at the plate by a perfect one-hop throw by Cherry Creek center fielder Edwin Bell.

Nava kept Post 22 hitters off-balance with a sharp curveball that he would throw at anytime in the count, he also painted the outside corner most of the night with his fastball which Post 22 hitters were unable to take to right field.

"Our hitters were out in front of everything tonight, and when you're out in front it's hard to see the curveball, and if you can't see the curveball you can't hit the fastball," Ploof said. "This is the time of the year that we have to be able to do that. If you can't, it's hard to score runs."

Post 22 had one more opportunity to score in the seventh, getting runners on first and second with no one out, but Post 22 was unable to get a bunt down and then made a baserunning error to end the game.

Sam Wolff and Dana Hill had the two hits for the hard hats in the game.

Post 22 (16-14 overall) finished the tournament at 2-3. It battles Denver PlayBall Sports Thursday night at Fitzgerald Stadium.
