Roosevelt 3, Central 1
RAPID CITY - After losing eight starters from the previous season, the Cobblers had a rocky start in their opener Friday against Sioux Falls Roosevelt. They gave up three goals in the first half and lost their Ryan Keohane for at least the weekend.
The Rapid City Central boys soccer team fell 3-1 Friday night at Sioux Park. Rapid City striker Jared Litzinger scored the Cobblers' sole goal five minutes in the game. After giving up three goals in the first half, the team played a solid second half, not allowing any goals and seeing some opportunities late.
"We've learned some things tonight," said Cobbler coach Joe Sabrowski. "It's a rebuilding year."
Sabrowski said that his lineup still needs to gel, but there were some positive signs from Friday night.
His goalkeeper, Dan Evans, was able to shut out a quick Rough Riders team in the second half. Sabrowski also said that his team was better conditioned in the final minutes, but they were unable to get the ball in the net.
The downside on Friday was the loss of defender Ryan Keohane, who rolled his ankle. After taping the ankle, Keohane tried to play for a half an hour, but the pain caused him to eventually leave the game.
The Cobblers are again in action today at 1 p.m. against Sioux Falls Washington at Sioux Park.
