HOT SPRINGS - Rapid City runner Michael Krsnak overcame obstacles to chalk up a pair of wins on the streets of Hot Springs on July 4.
Krsnak overcame being chased by a dog, "for about 100 meters," in the Firecracker 10k race to take the win. Then, with a bandage on a badly blistered heel, Krsnak added a win in the Main Street Mile as well.
Other age-group winners in the men's 10K were: 14-17 years old, Riley Coates; 18-29, Krsnak; 30-39; Jason Watzel; 40-49, Kip Coates; 50-59, Tim Anderson, and 60 and over Dennis Meier.
For the women, Piedmont's Anne Dreyer took overall medalist honors finishing at the top of 18-29 age group. Other winners were Malea Schad (14-17), Marla Wilen (30-39), Julie Brown in 40-49 and Amy Yanni in 50-59.
Zach Schrubb and Kara Flemming, both of Rapid City, were the top men's and women's finishers, respectively, in the Firecracker 5k race.
The Mainstreet Mile found Hot Springs runners taking four of the five age-division wins for the men. Krsnak was pushed hard by 11-13 winner Matthew Monfore, while Ty Wynia won the 10 and under, Floyd Simunek was the top finisher in the 30-39 division and Jonas Weiss claimed the 40-49 group.
