RAPID CITY - Post 22 ended its season in dramatic fashion with an extra-inning win over Denver Monarch High School, 5-4, Saturday night at Fitzgerald Stadium in the final game of the Marshall Tubbs Classic.

With the game knotted at 4-4 in the eighth inning, Post 22's Brock Estes hit a drive to left-center field, the ball appeared to be going out of the ballpark, but instead smashed off the wall for a double, making him the winning run. Estes was moved to third on a ground ball by Kolton Emery. With two outs, Denver's pitcher threw the ball in the dirt going past the catcher and Estes sprinted home for the score and the win.

We beat a very good ball club tonight," said Post 22 head coach Dave Ploof. "They were undefeated in this tournament until tonight. We're coming along, if we can be more consistent we will be OK."

A two-run blast by Denver's Calan Reichstien over the center field wall started the scoring in the top of the first inning. Leading 3-0 going into the third inning, Monarch starter Jesse Tallman was in complete control through the first couple innings, but that changed when Post 22 mounted a two-out rally.

Sam Wolff started the rally by hitting a booming drive to the fence in center field, and Estes reached on a catcher's interference call. With the bases loaded, Steven Ficken lined a two-strike pitch into the gap in right-center field bringing around all three base runners to give Post 22 a 4-3 advantage. The lead didn't last long for Rapid City, in the top of the next inning Denver's Brandon Vaughn lined a home run to left to tie the game at 4-4.

Ploof then went to his bullpen in the fifth inning bringing in Thane Lees who pitched one scoreless inning. Jon Hass then finished the game with two shut-out innings on the mound.

"We got really good pitching tonight," said Ploof. "All three of our pitchers tonight battled and threw the ball well."
