BELLE FOURCHE - There were some big eight-second rides Wednesday during the final day of the PRCA Black Hills Roundup at the Belle Fourche Rodeo Grounds.
Hometown cowboy Marvin Garrett posted an 87-point ride in bareback to record the win. Interior's Travis Sharp had an 84 to move into second, while second-round leader Matt Bright of Louden, Tenn., had to settle for third with an 83.
In the saddle bronc, Faith's Red Lemmel waited until the final day to make his move and came out victorious with a score of 88. Eagle Butte's Marty Hebb, who had a 79 on Tuesday, came in in second.
Brookings' Tye Odden tallied a score of 85 to win the bull riding competition. Lonnie Carpenter of Haysville, Kan., was the leader entering the final go and ended up finishing second at 80.
The leaders in the other four events held on to the top spot.
Letcher's Jill Moody won the barrel racing after posting a time of 17.33 seconds on the first day of competition. Melstone, Mont., cowgirl Mikell Hougen made a run at the best time in the last performance, however, she wound up in second with a :17.47-clocking.
The duo of Lee Olsen (Oelrichs) and Jeff Nelson (Philip) won the team roping with a time of 4.3 seconds on Monday.
Clint Knutson's time of 3.6 seconds in the steer wrestling event during the first go-round was good enough for a first-place finish. Knutson is from Gillette, Wyo.
The tie-down roping title went to Travis Caldwell, who is from Billings, Mont. His time of 8.1 seconds came on Tuesday.
